    Default Internal View

Have a look at the uncluttered layout inside the box. Mounting the hard drive couldn't be easier !

Note the nice big heat sink for the processor.

    Default Internal Fan

There is a decent sized fan mounted off the rear panel:

    Default Hard Drive installed

Here is another pic with a 500GB hard drive installed. I went with a 500GB Western Digital Caviar Green which I picked up for $59.

It is known that hard drives of 1 TB or more may have installation issues with some firmware. The first option is to flash the latest V5.1 official firmware to the box and then try to initialize the disk. The second option is to connect the HDD to your PC (internal) and start your PC with linux (maybe knoppix live cd) and make 1 partition on the hard drives, then format it in ext3 an create a folder /movie. Then test it in the vu+ again.

To make it real easy, the Vu+ Duo box comes with decent mounting screws and some rubber mounts.

    Hi all
Picked up my Vu+ Duo this morning
Thanks to Hillsbysa for organizing this group buy.

    First impressions
Setup was very uneventful with no surprises.
I setup and tested the unit with the image that came with the unit then installed the Dream Elite image for the box and am very pleased with the performance.

Once the appropriate satellites.xml file was installed and lnb details setup the unit scanned all channels very quickly. As far as I can tell everything that should be found was found.

Response from the remote is great, menus, channels changes all very quick

Picture looks good but I haven’t connected this unit to a HD TV yet so will report later on.

CCcam installed first go by the following buttons
    Green
    Yellow
    Addons Manager
    Dream Elite E2 Image Cams

Once configured it connected straight away

    Web IF works fine

I had been playing with this thing for about two hours before opening it up to install a hard drive and the heat sink on the CPU was only slightly warm.

Hard drive went in no problem (1 tb Seagate)

In three hours of playing I have one green screen really early in the piece (in the first 5 minutes on the original image) when I was changing the LNB settings and its been rock solid since then

Had a quick play with some recordings and it worked well but I only have a single tuner connected at the moment so will report back when I hook up the second.

Pause live TV rewind, ff etc very smooth and responsive.

So far I would have to say I am pretty pleased.

    Cheers
    SB

Just to be difficult :-) I put a 1TB drive in mine before flashing it with openpli. The first time the format failed, but i tried again and it worked perfectly. records just fine and I have the epg on there too. I seem to recall I had the same issue with a new drive and openpli before on another unit (dm800). had to try twice to format.

now the only thing I can't get working really nicely is the crossepg downloader for epg, but again it's a pli thing rather than a hardware problem. i've got a workaround where i copy the existing ext.epg.dat from a dm800.

as far as everything else, goes seem to boot much quicker than an 800. the remote control actually works if you are not directly in front of it and everything else is working as advertised.

my favourite feature so far is the firmware upgrade via usb stick.

Try cross epg version 2_0.3.2 it is working very nicely for me at the moment with a openpli from early this week.

On a pre-order basis by the looks of it. It says that stock is not due until late September. Looks like you have to pay extra if you want an aussie plug with it. All up including postage it is $603. The coupon code does not seem to alter the price.

The coupon code works for me. Once you type "austech" in the coupon field press "apply coupon" next to it. It then deducts $20.00.

I see there is a new forum at

warbro is currently the only poster so I'm assuming he has set it up. It will be a good place to post Vu+ Duo info relevant to the Oz scene (such as how to run a blue or orange card in the slot).

Is the internal fan running ? If not you might need to install the fan control plugin
