Yep MPEG 4 no doubt - makes the local digital terrestrial version of SBS HD here in Cairns look pretty sick. SD will obviously be in MPEG 2, however if the bandwidth/bitrate is there then they should come up okay too.

    Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Given the bitrate of ~2.2 Mbps for the SD SBS channels it's an almost certain bet that they are H.264 as well as the HD channel. There is no way they'll fit 15 channels including so many HD channels onto a DVB-S2 multiplex unless they are all H.264. ABC are the only odd one out because they probably couldn't afford the H.264 encoders so they got banished to their own transponder.

In addition to that, at the launch of construction at the site of the Craigmore terrestrial translator (Adelaide SA) last week, Sen. Conroy announced the VAST satellite service would be operating in 3 months time.

The last I had heard was it would be ready for the first SA analogue switch off at the end of the year.

It's just another case of believe it when we see it.

I have several people in the Blue Mountains (NSW) waiting for a decision on this service, as they have NO TV reception at all, due to topography.

Yes, they are entitled to have Aurora now, but why spend money on installing Aurora, only to have to spend more to replace the decoder for VAST.

At this point in time, VAST will only be made available to those households in areas where their current terrestrial analogue service is about to be switched off, so even though VAST may actually be on air and some areas would have decoders available for it, blackspot areas in the Blue Mountains would have to wait until late 2013 (Sydney analogue shutoff) before they would be able to obtain a VAST decoder... even though they have no TV (analogue or digital) now.

This is a ridiculous restriction and I certainly hope that decision is changed.

Unless the decision was changed and I was not made aware of it.... as far as I know, all VAST channels, both SD and HD, will be MPEG4.

The ABC will almost certainly change to H.264 at some time in the future but for now they are bit for bit identical to the terrestrial VIC ABC MPEG-2 transmissions (both SD and HD).

I am getting both tp's here in NZ on a 3.6m solid using vuduo, very low SNR about 30%, lock flicking on and off, getting ABC channels but heavily pixilated. foxtel help chan comming it at 59% though, and aljazerra at 49%.

Only the ABC HD channel and the SBS SD/radio channels are encrypted currently.

Does anyone have the PIDS for these channels, also what LNB are you using as I have a universal LNB on a 1.2M with a motek and using the parameters already posted on an Octagon 918 its not coming up with any channels.

You shouldn't need the exact PID's as they are correctly entered into the PAT for each transponder so once you scan the transponder you should have them.
PID's for SBS HD are 3350V/3351A/3350PCR

Are you using liquid nitrogen on your LNB? ;-)

Just a correction, the 3D Demo channel has nothing to do with Foxtel, it is the downlink feed for the terrestrial broadcast sites and is paid for by SBS and Nine.

Here is a cap from Stereoscopic Player converted into the old red/blue if you have glasses handy:

Nice depth between the football players.
