Bloody hell, Optus is busy today!

    VERY interesting configuration indeed.
The SBS HD channel is FTA but the SD channels are encrypted with a new Irdeto sytem CAID of 0636.

As could be expected the SBS HD channel is using H.264 and a bitrate of ~5 Mbps with a quality that is arguably better than terrestrial using MPEG-2!

Although, the SD channels seem to be messed up with no audio stream listed for those channels.

    Just checked the details:

    Symbol rate 30000 kS/s DVB-S2 FEC 3/5 pilot on.

Just did a rescan using Dream and the following showed up:

    SBS HD VIC
    SBS NSW Radio 1
    SBS ONE VIC
    SBS TWO SE
    SBS VIC/TAS Radio 1
    SBS VIC/TAS Radio 2
    Seven HD EAST
    Seven SE
    Seven Two SE
    Nine HD EAST
    Nine SE
    GO! SE
    One Digital SE
    One HD EAST
    Ten SE

Also a big hint as to who the channel operators are:
The Nine/GO channels have an operator of IMP (Imparja)
The Seven/Ten/One channels have an operator of SCB (Southern Cross)
The SBS channels have an operator ID of SBS which is no surprise.

Only the SBS streams are active in the multiplex, the rest are in the PAT/PMT but not streamed for now.
Pretty interesting that ALL FTA channels (other than ABC) for a region zone can be squeezed into a single DVB-S2 multiplex. Looks like VAST may only need 4 transponders to cover all of Australia in total.

I see they only added SBS ONE Vic. Could this suggest the existing SBS ONE NSW for Foxtel NDS subs will be simulcrypted and shared with VAST subs? Be nice if they did this with the ABC's, instead of wasting all this space for more copies of the same channel.

No, the SBS ONE VIC version looks to be the one that will be used for SA/VIC/NSW/ACT/TAS zone.
It looks like VAST will be totally independent of Foxtel since there is no simulcrypting (just like Aurora). The Foxtel provider NIT table most likely will never list VAST transponders and vice versa.
It's a pity since Optus is now pretty happy counting our tax $$$ with so many versions of ABC and SBS across Optus C1/D3/D1.

The MediaStar has a seriously messed up bitrate calculation. The average bitrate is actually around 5 Mbps.

I thought 60 was a bit on the high side! I was going to ask you about your blind scanning. Do you use a PCI card?

SBS and ABC are the only ones currently with active video/audio streams (SID's). All the other FTA's are listed in the PAT and will load in some decoders but don't have any SID's to connect to.

There is no OneSD video/audio stream yet on either the VAST trasnponders or the Foxtel FTA re-transmission transponders.
For now there is just a PAT entry on one of the VAST transponders so the physical stream will be added soon.
My guess is that once Southern Cross adds it to VAST that Foxtel may well add Ten to their transponders around the same time but both will be encrypted with their respective CAID's.

MTV advised earlier that it appears the Mildura/Sunraysia area wont need access to VAST as they can cover it Terrestially so its will be interesting to see who is next,July 1st providing the STB's are available and how they decide what areas in each 'Switchover' zone can access VAST.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

SBS Hd does sure look pretty.

Unfortunately when I found it, was some show about carving up whale blubber!

any reason as to why there are some NZ beams for Aus FTA? SBS Tasmania can be picked up on a sky dish here from D1 and all FTA, then theres 7 Central encrypted on C1.
