The 501 connects to the DM500s.
You would then need to configure it as a client.
    They are $60 including postage

It's a good option when it's too hard to run a network cable all the way

What does the tuner module do does it let you record one channel and watch another? Do the Dreambox 500 s come with a Hard if not is it a 3.5"?

The plug in style tuner module allows for easier & cheaper repair if ever required.

You can not record one channel & watch another unless both are on the same trasponder. This is because it is a single tuner box, not a dual.
The DM500's do not have provision for a HDD. The DM7020's do, but the HDD is not included. It can take 3.5 IDE, but a 2.5 with adaptor would be better. It would be quiter & use less juice.

The DM500 can still record, but it needs to be done across a LAN network to a networked hard drive.

No the new turner modle only allows one channel at a time, the benifits of the new tuner is that its easier to replace if it gets faulty, Also no harddrive will fit in side a DM500 STB you maybe able to have an external one ??

Which 2.5" HDD will it take? SATA or IDE? Does the DM7020 come with a special (smaller) connector for the 2.5" HDD? Thanks.

It takes a 3.5" IDE HDD, or a 2.5" with the correct adaptor.

Looking to get a few of these, what kind of support do you provide for setting up afterwards?

Also are the channel changes much quicker on the DM500 then a humax 5400?

I can provide some support & a push in the right direction, but theres a limit
The user must accept some responibility.
Chanel change time is similar to the humax. About a second or two
