update and run you antivirus and adware programs
if you havent already, update to service pack 2 of XP
PS: how did you create this thread if your computer crashes and reboots ?
Hi all,
I have developed this problem recently, where i am on the net and for no apparent reason the system will crash and reboot. I could be reading a forum or just surfing and it will just go??
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S
I made a fatal mistake of erasing my system restore points before yesterday

You need to check whats running when it crashs
whats running in taskmanager
also what OS
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input have done all those things. The only thing running is the internetwhen the problem arises.
Cheers
disconnect the inet .. let the pc sit or use pc for good 6 hrs and see if still does it ..

Download and Run Hijackthis
Then post the logfile to see what is running on your machine.
Hi guys,
Ssytem is crashing without the net now. I am getting various error messages like : PFN_LIst Corrupt and page list missing. It has rest my clock and date and has wiped what system restores I had left. I can't figure out if it is a hardware mal function or software?
Got to go before it dies again.
By the sound of it, its hardware for the clock to reset
start with your ram If you have 2 sticks remove one and try it.. If its still crashing remove it and try the other one
0x0000004E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
This indicates that the memory management Page File Number list is corrupted. Can be caused by corrupt physical RAM, or by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists.
Is it at random times it crashs ?
or at say 10mins from startup it crashs ?
Thats a good question DND, I would have said that about 10 mins from startup although now its crashing at random times. I searched the web and got the same answer for the first fault, but the other fault was page_Fault_in non page error??.
Will give the ram a go tomorrow, tried to download memtest 86 to test the ram but it crashed.
Thanks for the input guys.
P.S
Am using the wife's lappy to go online
Latest update, pulled one stick of ram out and ran the pc for an 1.5 hrs no probs. Put the original ram in and pulled the other stick out and did the same, no probs. Now I have both back in and am testing.
If you think I am confused you would be right. I am unsure whats going on.
One thing I found out totally unrelated to this issue is that I have two hardrives instead of one. all this time I thought it was one hardrive. Had I known I would have partitioned them and ran a back up on the spare. Is it possible to do it now or will I need to format both Hardrives?
when you open "My Computer" there should be 2 drivers showing in there if there both hooked up ??
Unless they are RAID'ed then only one will show up (because 2HDD's acted as one)
so don't format or unhook them untill you know whats going on
Hi DND,
I have this description in Device manager:
-Windows promise RAID Console SCSI Processor Device
-Win XP Promise FastTrak 378(tm) controller
Does this mean I have Raid ???
Yes sounds like you have Raid that's why its only showing 1 HDD in "MY Computer"
I don't know alot about it this pc is the first one I have ran Raid on, To pull a bit better performance out of it
what I have is 2x 80g sata HDD's raid'ed and 1x 250g sata for my backup
Hows the crashing going ?
ps. your probly better of getting a spare HDD for backup because if one of your raid HDD's die you lost the lot
DND,
I have run the P.C for 3 hours straight and no crashing?? I am still unsure what happened, but will monitor it to see if anything develops.
P.S
I have an external 160GB H/Drive for back ups.
Cheers
Fingers crossed m8 might of just been a stick of ram not seating probly or a bit of crap in the slot
