Default Like to get feedback from Toyota Aurion drivers ...

    Hi guys

Looking at buying a new vehicle for the family and have read some good reviews on the v6 Aurion .... price is reasonable for the features, good safety with 6 airbags, good fuel economy and power. Probably only looking at the base model.

I'd love to hear from anyone who owns one to get some 'real' feedback.

    Cheers

Ok I dont own one but the old man does, ZR6 sportivo. He had some trouble at first with the gearbox(pooed itself diving out of the show room) but was fixed promptly and never had another problem. He gets about 8-9 l/km around town and 7 on the hwy. Another thing, my mum damaged the front bumper (had to be replaced) and surprisingly(this day and age) it didnt cost alot to get repaired, something like $300 for the bumper from toyota + paint. Nice car quiet inside and very roomy, he's pretty happy with it(this is his third camry). Hope that helps some.

I rented one for a week before xmas.

    I would buy a Mitsubishi 380 instead.

They are a much nicer car.

Thanks for the info ash. My brother and Dad have both owned a couple of Camry's and have never had any problems with them. I also spoke to the NRMA guy who came to fix our Commodore recently, and he told me that they rarely get called out to Toyota's and if they do, it's just either due to being a flat battery or have locked themselves out of the car. I thought that's a pretty good guide for reliability.

Never really considered a Mitsubishi to be honest. Just had a look at their website and they don't look too bad either. Fairly similar price, although (from a quick glance) you have to go up to the SX model (second in range) to be on par with the features.

What is it that you like about the 380 over the Aurion z80?

Yeah, same here. I've always had RWD (Holden's) for the main car and I'm not a real fan of FWD.

Having said that, some of the salesmen told me that having the powered wheels in the front is better for cornerning. They said that you lose some power with RWD. Could be crap for all I know

Tell the salesman to stop pulling your leg.

The front wheels are steering and dealing with sideloads.
Add power driving the wheels and you get slip in your steering.
In the wet add a little too much steering while powering out of a corner and you next thing is you start slideing the front (ie no steering).

Have you seen the new BMW add on tv?
They pride themselves on the fact that the front wheels only steer and the rears do the driving.
Its the safest combination without a doubt.

Yes you lose a little power via driveline drag in a rearwheel drive. The power of rearwheel drives today more than takes care of that matter.

I drive a older 2001 4 cyl camry with 197000km on the clock and can highly recommend Toyotas reliability, quality and resale value.

The only thing i dont like is the frontwheel drive setup.

They use stuff all fuel, considering the power.
They stick like shit to a wet blanket on cornering.
They have european sized pedals and controls, not little japanese man size.
Extremely comfortable seats, much better than the Toyota.
    6 stacker MP3 player.

They have zinc plated panels for rustproofing.
(not that i care about that, but later it will matter)

The warranty is a huge 6 years I believe.
They give a SS commodore a scare when you take off...

And....they are so cheap at the moment cause they have made the last one in Adelaide today.

I have actually bought the one in all the TV advertising today, the media release car.
It has all the good shit like sat nav, sunroof, leather, traction control.

soooo cheap I'm embarassed to post.

At the end of the day these ae new cars cahnces are nothing ever goes wrong during the warranty period anyway unless its aocne off thing (manufacturing error) but these are usualy quite evident in the first 1=2 of ownership. Toyota in my opinion are more reliable the mitsubishi in the passed (for cars made here) hwoever mitsu have stepped up there game a fair bit.

In the argument of FWD Vs RWD
if your not racing lmao it doesnt make a difference at all except its harder to do burnouts (lmao_ and drift in a front wheel car if oyur not interest in that dont worry about the FWD setup Only thing i hate about fwd setups is later on dow nteh track when you want to do something in the engine change something etc its a bitch to get to things and will cost you more than a RWD. Iv drivin a fwd(currently drive) onand also my a commowhore and i belive fwd in the dry have better control on the road thats my opinion anyway.

If it was up to me id get the Toyota simple because of reliability.

P.s. toyota charges more on service....

    FTO King

Just buy a R34 Skyline GTR or a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo....Youll have great fun then and the wife will be happy you came home with a family car...

I have a " shopping trolley " ( it goes anywhere that involves carparks , I am sick of arseholes dinting doors grrrr )1993 Holden Apollo which is of course a Toyota Camry rebadged as a Holden. It has 330,000 on it and runs fine.

Toyota's reliability is excellent. If I was going to spend money on a new car , it would be on a Toyota. They are at least worth some money when you trade in , Commodores are worth about a $1.00 , Falcons $1.50 and Mitsubishi about 50 cents ( though it might go up now because they are rare )

Toyota parts can be pricey , but I wouldnt expect you would be needing them.

Thanks for the advice guys ... I might venture out to the dealers on the weekend and give both a test drive.

@FTO King ... if I bought one of those, I dont think it would be worth coming home

While everyone is reading this, would you recommend I sell the current Commodore Berlina privately or is it better to trade?

I've had the Berlina since it was new in 1998, so not really up with what's best these days. It's a VT with only 100,000 Klm on the clock. Has a few dings in it and the A/C needs to be fixed.

We took it to the mechanic today for tyres and he recommended selling it privately. Your thoughts?

    I have driven both....have you?

I had the SS for a week from Winter and Taylor in Geelong while wifes SAAB was being delivered last year.

The SS was a piece of plastic squeaky, uncomfortable, low visibility crap.

    The 380 takes off quicker....for a while.

I am on my 7th 380 GT lease car in 12 months.

So I do have a bit of an idea of what I am comparing.

yeah Mitsubishi's were so successful they've stopped production and closed the plant down....
The ss is so successfully that they are now exporting to USA.

I've driven the SS and wouldn't bother with the 380 as have previously owned Bitsashiti cars and been bitterly disappointed.

A man of your so called knowledge of vehicles should know that SAAB- fastest depreciating motor vehicle on earth

on the comparing part, it depends if you are looking for a softly sprung grandpa mobile doesn't it???

sorry to go off topic AussieM8 -z80 the thread is about Aurions, not 380's
