Extradry, chances are an electrolytic capacitor leaked. I had this problem with my Humax (and some other appliances) If you are good with a soldering iron, you can do this. After disconnecting the appliance from the power point, open the box and look in the direction of the power suply. If it is a capacitor, you can't miss it - it will look "blown" at the top and wil need replacing. Check the details and buy a new one at Jaycar. Good luck!
Nope, there are no cap issues with 7025's.
Check the diodes in the secondary, particularly the one around the 7812 regulator towards the front of the set top.
if the display is flashing on/off...then it is going into overprotection.
the 7812 section is the most stressed and the reason why hard drives are so damned hard to get to work in all the 70xx range.
they are only rated at one amp and no heatsink.
Got one right here that just started doing the same..put a 700 gig into it
