Yeah but you need an extra power supply for the old Phat Xbox to power the Kinetic up.The newer version has a special socket.

I don't see the point in updating either,i've already got wireless,my Jasper is near silent,and it will suit my entertainment unit better than the new one.
It doesn't do Bluray either so it's a bit of a let down overall really.
Another thing I noticed is that most of the marketing photos show it standing on it's end,it looks like a half-sucked mango when it's horizontal imho.

I have just heard its gunna be a special plug/socket adaptor so no need for PSU

I read somewhere that the standard USB port won't have enough juice to run it on it's own,that's why the power supply was needed.
The fact that the new model has a special port for this supports that theory.

The new Xbox 360 ‘Slim” DVD Drive is a Philips DG-16D4S FW VER: 9504
Team Xecuter have acquired a number of consoles and are sharing them with Team Jungle and C4E for further analysis.
The New 360 has been opened up by the guys at solomods.com.
We now also know the DVD-drive, it's a Phillips/Liteon DG-16D4S with firmware V9504. Most likely it will be the same "mediatek" chipset,
so the MRA way to dump firmware might work

It might have been detectable months ago,only Microsoft knows for sure.
The fact that they haven't done anything about it yet doesn't mean that they can't detect it.
I'm sure their technicians would have had LT loaded to their own DVD drives for testing not long after it was released.
I'm not saying they can or can't detect it,i'm just saying it would be silly to assume that they can't.
Ok fair enough doesn't really concern me as I have never played online and have no intentions doing so in the near future

Thanks for the photos,it's good to see the full consoles side by side.
There is not a lot of difference in size really, considering it's 5 years newer.
Electronic products usually halve in size or thickness every 2 to 3 years so I don't think they've done a real good job of making it slim,PS2 Phat vs PS2 Slim is a good example. It's more shorter than it is slim,but Xbox 360 Stumpy doesn't have a very good ring to it.
The size of the case is obviously to allow for better cooling,so I suppose there is probably no way to make it much smaller without having overheating issues.
I think i'd rather buy 2 Jtagable arcades than spend $400 on one of these.
I like the look of the new version when it's standing up,but I keep mine flat and
in this position it looks woeful imo - see pic 33.
Maybe if the angles met in the middle,rather than the right hand side it would look OK,but the DVD tray is in the way.I honestly think it would look better if the front was just flat,but maybe the bent look will grow on me over time.

The new slims look pretty cool, but with the shinny design like the 1st gen PS3's they'll mark/get dirty very quickly...so not so smart on that front. After the Elite matte style came out, I'm pretty sure the PS3 slim wasn't far behind that with the matte finish that a lot more people preferred. M$ have done the reverse and brought out the fingerprint-attractor model as thei8r latest!
Good to see the X360S has a Phillips/LiteOn drive that appears to be hackable, so we'll see how that progresses. I will probably get one of these but will definitely wait to hear its completely "modable" before I finish up with my X360 Pro. Like most I am probably expecting another mass-ban wave over the next month, assuming M$ have done their homework on LT software. If they haven't and all our older consoles are essentiall;y free to run with it over the next X amount of months - there's not really much point of the new console and jumping on its banwagon is there?
