Can any one steer me in the right direction for the sound device driver for my Acer Extensa 5220? I have tried about a hundred different things and still cant get any sound, I am at a loss what to try next.
Cheers.

vista and xp drivers
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
Thanks guys, The site Fandtm linked to is where I got them all from. I still cant get it to work. Just discovered that my USB ports arent working either lol
Any other Ideas?
Have you checked you dont have a virus?
Or maybe try repairing the operating system
if you did a xp install did you install the chipset drivers ????
because now that you have mentioned the usb not working that sounds like the chipset not being installed
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
re installed chipset driver, and fixed USB prob, still no sound device though.
i have backed up my audio drivers and uploaded them
1: go to my computer/properties/device manager /audio
then select reinstall driver and tell it you will pick the driver to install and point it to my folder and select
wdmaudio.inf
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
Do you mean in Sound Video and Game controllers?
yep
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
which one fandtm, I only have Audio codecs, Legacy video capture devices, media control devices and video codecs?
ok go to
control panel >> add hardware >> next >> yes i have already >>
audio >>>> then tell it where the drivers are
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
sorry fandtm666 i cant get it going, keep getting cannot install this software. then in device manager PCI device has the dreaded yellow question mark. Im thinking I am going to have to reformat and try again. I read on a site that you should install the drivers in a certain order?
Thanx for your patience mate
chipset >> AHCI_Intel >>Audio_Realtek >> video then after that no reall diff
but try again but do it in safe mode reboot press F8 as start in safe mode then install the driver
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
still no good in safe mode dude, going for reinstall as per your tute. Which drivers did you install from the euro site? and did you install anyof the Acer thingys, below the drivers?
i have the same problem.
i have installed twice now and still no sound.
this is what i did (and where i think may be the problem?)
i loaded into bios, set sata mode to IDE. so winxp would install without sata drivers
i installed xp on formatted drive
installed chipset drivers
went to install ahci drivers but got an error (pc does not fit requirments)
then installed audio
then video
etc
etc
the fact that ahci doesnt install (i suspect because i changed the sata mode to ide?) would this affect audio at all?
i cannot simply change sata mode back to ahci in bios as XP will not boot then.
Yes that is the reason why and is why it was show and suggested on how to do the install with either the floppy method or the better slip streaming method.
in the time it takes to install windows twice one could have created a slip streamed silent unattended windows disc -did the install and had dinner.
As i have suggested before get a copy of nlite -the sata drivers - a windows disc and creat an unattended slipstread windows install disc
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
Have u ran the Acer e-recovery? This will load yr OS to factory defaults and will have all the necesary drivers in the image.
if i had known it would cause issues i wouldnt have taken the shortcut.in the time it takes to install windows twice one could have created a slip streamed silent unattended windows disc -did the install and had dinner.
i slipstreamed sata drivers and installed xp, but same problem.
after many more hours of installing drivers and O/S ive finally figured out the problem.
i was using windows xp sp3 beta.
i decided to try an old version of sp2 and this worked, i was overjoyed to hear sound out of those speakers :P lol
so possibly a audio driver problem with sp3, acer better get on that update!
