Hi there,
I have purchased a cheap chinese dvd/tv/GPS unit for my car, i have also purchased a Garmin SD card loaded with maps which i cannot seem to open on my unit. When i go to select the files on the sd card the folders are empty- as though the files are incompatible with my system.
The chinese supplier gave me the following info:
"Baudrate: 9600; resolution:800*480; port: com2
we recommend Garmin brand"
On my unit under the system info it says:
Ver: F1D1-F1D1-6022-100113 (WINDOWS CE6)
Can anyone help or suggest anything?
Thanks,
Cam

Looking at another post and found these steps, i have the garmin file as an IMG file but does it mean in step2 by copy to the 'root' of SD memory card?
So on my SD card i should have 1 folder labelled Garmin and in that folder i should have one IMG file labelled GMAPSUPP. Is this correct?
INSTALLATION:
------------------------------------------------------
1) Extract [Garmin for Win CE.rar] that you downloaded above (using winrar)
2) Copy the GARMIN folder to the root of your SD memory card
3) Extract the [gmapprom.rar] file, you will get a gmapprom.img file - This is the map file
4) Copy across the gmapprom.img file into the Garmin directory on your SD card.
this is a list of my Garmin folder which is working fine

yes i am running wince6 but not on a double din unit mine is standard 5 inch gps unit and yes you should have 1 folder named Garmin on your sd card with the files i listed above inside..!
using the keygen.................
1) Unless your copying the files via usb, put your SD card back in your GPS device.
2) Run the Garmin application from Garmin\RunGMX\Garmin.exe (don't run it from \Garmin\Apps\WM\que.exe otherwise your settings will not save when you exit the application.
3) GarminXT should load up and give you a list of some options. Choose [Search for a garmin gps] or similar, its the bottom option. Choose this and it will give you access to the main menu (if it starts to search for a GPS, just hit skip for now, you can configure it later).
4) Go into ‘tools’ (the spanner icon), then settings (again, the spanner) then scroll down to ‘about’ and write down the 10 digit Card ID.
5) Exit GarminXT
6) Extract JMKG 1.5 FINAL.rar
7) Run garmin_kgen.exe
8) Enter the card id that you wrote down in the [enter the unit id here] field, choose Garmin Mobile XT, then press Generate
9) Copy or write down the generated code
10) Create a text file and copy/type the generated code in it
11) In notepad, go to file, save as, then save the file and name it SW.UNL (NOT SW.TXT.UNL)
12) Copy the SW.UNL file to the Garmin folder of your phone
if your Garmins folders contents look like mine it should work , if you have no SW.UNL file make one.

The Keygen referred to is the Jetmouse Garmin key generator
it will generate an unlock key for the Garmin map that you use to make the SW.UNL file(just a text file containing the key and renamed SW.unl) so that it can be used with Garmin software
However there is another unlocker that will unlock any Garmin map so you don't need the unlock file
The map you have on the SD card is probably already been unlocked
Hope you didn't pay much for that SD card as the latest map file can be downloaded via this forum for free
Along with the map you also need the Garmin XT software from Garmin(another free download)
Have a good read of Hollowman's tutorials on getting things to run
If you can't run with the DOGS, Stay on the Porch
I think the Garmin Baud Rate is 4800 (from memory) the same as Microsofts navigation hardware. Most others are 9600.
me thinks that ALL they have is the maps, no software, the assumption is that the software is maybe loaded on the head unit and reads the sd card for map data only.
Not sure that will ever work...
