    Lifted from...

Q: When will I need to replace my smartcard?
A: It is currently planned for existing (i.e. already activated) Version 1 smartcards to remain in operation until early 2008. We are no longer activating any ‘new’ Version 1 smartcards. By mid 2008, any Version 1 smartcards which have not already been replaced by a Version 4 (or higher) smartcard will require swapout at that time. All new smartcards provided now are Version 5.

For the purpose of identification, Version 1 smartcard numbers begin with either ‘0’ or ‘2’. If your smartcard begins with either of these numbers, you will need to replace your smartcard with a current version by mid 2008 otherwise you will lose access to Aurora services.

    Got an email from Aurora:

At the moment we are not yet ready to switch off the Irdeto 1 platform. When we do customers will be notified and then they will need replacement cards.

i talked with the lovely lady on the other end of the phone for the activation service a few months back and she said she had no idea when the changeover was happening and she had heard more about it from customers than from management and that all existing cards would continue to keep running so i dont think they have any definate date and really no implemented plan to change the service
buts thats just speculation on my behalf

    Gents,
    Do not panic here.
They were going to shut it off in 2008 but are now not going to.
This is because optus pumped all the UEC Aurora decoders out there and have now discovered an issue......they do not decode irdeto 2.........beautiful.

Pffft Now That's Funny. Optus could always swap out those UECs that can't do Irdeto2 with something decent .

Which models do you base that statement on? My UEC720ixAurora does I2 just dandy, be it an official Aurora I2 card or austar with whitey, and even austar with whitey in a smartwi splitter. The only issue it has with I2 is spongebob on a couple of Austar channels, everything else is ok, and Im pretty sure this is something deliberate by austar, and nothing a firmware update couldnt fix anyway.

    Hi All,

I have tried genuine I2 on a UEC 642,645 and 660,they dont seem to recognise an I2 card very well - i get the E05 message (unknown card).

    cheers

I couldn't imagine optus supplying stb boxes to suit their own tv platform simply not working. They are a major telecommunications company for heavens sake! Imagine, that would be like one of those companies building a satellite to put up in the sky that didn't work properly. Or rolling out a new telephone platform that didn't work. Ridiculous, close this thread please

dunno where you got that, first round were replaced by UEC DSD910's, second (and final) round of replacements (for GWN subscribers on pas2) were swapped out with ADB / Hills boxes, all of which have been running legit i2 cards fine for years now.

DSD910 runs a gamma if you go through changing nit scanning which can be tricky, there was a tut on it here last year but gone now of course, never tried one on the hills but probably would work too as its nothing special.
