Must be something in the air mate, I went telstra with my iPad , good price and best coverage.
They have even released some really good mobile phone caps now.
Felt really strange actually calling telstra...Who would've thought...lol
Well I never thought I would do it but I have churned to Bigpond. Part of the reason was to see if I really could get ADSL2 and unfortunately I cant. But I am on 8000/384 25 gig for $50 which is better than what anyone else is offering me at the moment.
Churn was pain free, all Telstra employees I spoke to were Australian. One even called me mate !
Scary.

If my house ever gets finished that looks like a good plan as I know I won't get adsl2
to be honest i have been looking at them as well because i will never get adsl2 from anyone else. Its just the fact they count uploads that has stopped me because wife and daughter rack up the uploads with video to the other child in england every day
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
I'm in an ADSL1 area... but for some reason, the last Bigpond modem i set up here, was on ADSL2?? Got download speeds of 30mb/s... i was impressed.
Yet even on the Bigpond site, when you add a phone number for this area, it says no ADSL2 is available, please choose from our ADSL1 plans.
Anyway, it really sucks that ADSL2 is so much cheaper and that they rip you hard for ADSL1.
I was happy with my ADSL1 8mb/384 from iinet, but it just got too $$$
Perhaps Telstra is finally working out where all its customer went??
I must admit, with 3G or NextG... They have it covered, any other carrier is lousy.
Not sure i could ever bring myself to paying them another cent though, too many years of being ripped off to forget that easily.
I'm not so fussed about downloads or uploads because I only use a few gig. It's more the speed. I'm on the 1500 plan with aanet and it's the lowest download plan 7gig and I never hit that. It's now $45.90 so I figure may as well splurge the extra $4/month to go faster lol

I've gone from 50 gig 1500/256 including up and down and using 10-12 gig a month. So I should still only use roughly the same amount even with the faster speed because I gave up trying to download the internet about 5 years ago
Edit : Doorbell, registered post package containing a line filter and a setup CD Keep filter, CD in bin.
Like you Leroy, i started with 1500/256 with iinet, within 2 days i went to 8000/384 for an extra $10 a month.
And once you do that (download 700mb in 20min) its very hard to go back.
Youtubes etc are another area you notice the big difference.
But in saying all of that, Bigpond has also had the best ping times of ISP's i've used.. good for page to page jumping and CSing i guess.
Thats an interesting point. My pings have gone up from Internode to Telstra....I would have thought the same or less.
But I did notice in the Bigpond member area there is an option to change your line profile yourself stating that the other profile will give you faster ping times but possible drop outs.
ol' boy (25-06-10)
his right in a way
i been on dodo 1500k for yrs
then i found they offered 8mb for extra $10 (they call it adsl2 but its really high speed adsl1)
anyway, i had dodo @ 8mb for few days, then it died to 3mb with no fixable answer
so i spat it with dodo, churned to bigpond on a fox\phone\net bundle
took a month to swap lol, god knows why (know he dont)
ends up, i had a bad phone filter on 1 of the phones killing the speed
long live dodo
pfft bigpuddle ... ya lucky first up sanity .. give it time ! I say 3 -4 weeks .. and ya won't be so happy ! 99% of broadband issues are with bigpond

Why wont I be happy in 3-4 weeks ? I'm not someone who subscribes to bagging Telstra, Microsoft, Bill Gates etc because its cool and funky. I dont ring ISP support lines unless there is a problem at the ISP end......something I have rarely had to do in having 10 years of ADSL.
I would be interested to hear your source for 99% of Broadband issues are with Bigpond ? I have had ADSL1 which is supplied by Telstra Wholesale for 10 years with almost zero problems. I cant see how buying a product directly rather than buying from a third party is going is going to effect my internet.
When I receive calls from customers saying there internet not working .. I say let me guess your with Bigpond .. and yes they are ... there support gives up after first call suggests they ring pc technician ... only reason I bag telstra is there support is crap .. its Indian call centre with scripts and all they know.. can't complain keeps me busy !

I also just churned over from internode on some special trial
Naked ADSL 1 or 2, but I still get to keep my home phone number so I can recieve calls, just can not make any, which is basically what I was doing before. So I now save on my line rental.
They have techinical support? I always have to walk them through eveything is wrong and never actually get the problem fixed until I let them know what they have to do and the codes they have to implement. Saying this, if you ever have a problem with tech support on Bigpond, email David Thornley (or what ever the CEO's spelling is) and let him know. That will get any problems you have fixed (I had to, with respect to the metering system, which kept screwing up)
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.
My story is a good news one for Telstra
2 years ADSL2+, (a little expensive but there is no alternative in the middle of nowhere in the bush.)
Even got a $10 discount for whingeing (asking nicely )
Had tech probs once, left the pooter on over night as instructed, next morning sorted, they had to re-jig the modem.
Nice thank you call, from a Phillipino woman, to make sure it was OK.
Prior to that had cable in Melb for 5 years no problems.and dial up before then again no problems
