Icprog, Ponyprog on xp sp2
G'day all,
I'm having serious trouble with both icprog and ponyprog, they are installed on a XP SP2 desktop. My problem is the same with both pieces of software, they load up ok but as soon as I try to do anything ie, change com port my pc crashes. Not even alt/ctrl/del revives it, the pc requires a full reboot. I have tried disabling all the serial and printer ports thinking there may have been a clash but the same thing happens. I know that if I used a 98 machine it would probably work but I don't have access to one. Has anyone experienced this and if so, was there a solution?

Try starting the programs in a "Win98" config....go to ICprog exe file, right click, then go properties. Then compatibility, then click the checkbox entitled "compatibility mode" and select Win98....then ok. I have ICprog on XP SP2, works fine.
Edit.....thanks Satguru, it would help if I read the post properly. I'm off to try it.

Maybe a corrupt file?
Did you get it from here
Did you try it with the nt/2000 driver?
Some notes on that page for installing on xp.
Still no joy, I must be stupid. I downloaded the program again (just to be sure), then I got the driver and the help file. I created a folder called icprog and unzipped the exe, driver and help file to it. I then click on the executable and it comes with something along the lines of "this is your first time, please setup the hardware", I click ok and the pc crashes. Am I supposed to drop the the driver (*.sys) into the sytem32/drivers folder?
Make sure in the hardware config, if you can get into it, that the "use Win2000/XP driver" box is ticked.
It appears that I have a hardware conflict, I tried to run a serial port monitor and during its interrogation the same thing happens, the machine locks up. I'm gonna blow windows away and try again on a fresh install, then if it icprog works I'll start adding back things that I need until I find the conflict. It's going to be a major PITA, thanks for all the advise.
