360 "Open Tray" Error

Hey guys,
total noob here, so please bear with me. Have an original 360 Elite which has stopped reading discs of all kinds. Basically have the usual complaint that xbox will say "reading" and then comes back with "Open Tray".

First off, can I open the xbox casing without the tools mentioned on the 360 repair page?

Secondly, is it worth it? If I need to replace the laser, that's prob beyond my reach.

So anyone know any good xbox repairers in the brisbane area? Preferably southside/Ipswich...

mate its easier than you think...

i can open a xbox 360 with t screwdrivers and a thin fork

the laser part is easy to replace there is plenty of good tutorials around

all you need is a screwdriver

if its still in warranty send it in though....

Sounds like the laser is stuffed but it could just be dirty, my mate had a black 120gb elite & after 6 months it had the same problem.. I'd say before you go buy a new laser & get it fixed just try a good dvd cleaning kit, should cost you about $10 or so & it worked perfectly on my mates xbox.

Worse case if the cleaning kit doesnt fix it you can always use it for your pc/dvd player etc..
