A huge thanks to Mick. The chip arrived today and the set is now all fixed.

Hi Cwispy, Good stuff, Did you change the screen type in the service mode. I'll PM the price when I find the invoice in the mess I've got going on.

Yep, changed the screen settings as per the service notice. Let me know how much I owe you when you can. It sounds like you use the horizontal filing system too

Anybody have some info on repairing the LA40R81BDX model, after the two caps have been replaced, and when powered on the relay clicks and IC1202 and IC1104 get very hot, then the supply clicks off and the cycle starts again. It has a Weltrend WT61PGS for IC1806 which I have no info on.

Lift pins 5 & 6 & power up on IC1803 surfacemount IC and see it the set will fire up that will tell you if the Eprom is at fault or you have more serious problems.

It's in the middle on the back of the tuner PWB.

edit :- Forgot to give you thisinfo when you PM'ed me.

Thanks Mickstv, removed IC1803, powered set on and seemed to all work, the other two chips didn't get hot. The LCD stayed black during the process and couldn't get it turn on but the blue light below the Samsung logo flickered when pressing keys on the remote, and it would respond to the remote power button.

Searching found a link for another model, they had the eeprom contents to download, hxxp://www.tv.quuq.org/forum/index.php?topic=2377.15, reading the LA40 24c256 would appear to be blank, all 0xff with some 00's scattered.

Still a bit strange the last one i looked at when the eprom ic was taken out I got the on screen display up on it so it is possible you've got bigger problems than just the eprom but it is still worth trying.

In this thread you'll find a file to download in the PDF you'll find the part number of the eprom ic.

I think from memory the screen will come upto analog fuzz when the IC is removed.

The tuner board maybe shot. But fear not as I may even have a secondhand tuner pwb and I also have some secondhand power supplies.

The power supply will be ok if you have changed the caps, so it will be down to the mainboard. I'll have a look and make sure I have one before we go to far ok. I'll have a look for a mainboard tomorrow morning I just can't remember whether the boards I'm thinking about are for the r81 for the 71 models.

Stick the eeprom back in and leave pins 5 and 6 disconnected and see what happens.

    Thanks for the reply

Have you ever had one of those days LOL

I put the eeprom BACK TO FRONT and left pins 1 and 2 off LOL

Well i will be buggered the set turned on the way you said with snow etc ..

So when i put the eeprom in the right way all pins soldered down she is back to clicking LOL

So if you have a chip or the dump as I am, sure i have a few 24c256 sitting here from previous projects

Ahh mate thanks for looking but i just stuck a blank one in it and guess what as soon as the TV boots it writes to it

The give away was when you were saying lift the pins / same as shorting i guess as it blanks / zeroes

Again Mick this is why this site is so good as there are boys that go way out of there way to help each other and you are one of them

I wonder if the old one just needs to be cleared ?

But then again it's not worth the hassle when it comes to a customers job.
