Nothing recommended, but make sure that you now get one that does dvb-s2 to allow for you to do the newer high def formats, rather than just the old dvb-s one.
I am looking for another project and have been thinking of getting a PCI SAT TV Card for my PC and having a play.
Can anyone here recommend a particular card and if so what would be the "good things" about it ...

Thanks I have noticed a big price difference between DVB-S and DVB-S2 hardware.
Apart from the high definition does anyone know of any lacking features functions between the DVB-S and DVB-S2 ??
I don't know why people keep equating DVB-S2 with HD. The resolution of the video streams has got nothing to do with the DVB standard. You can view HD channels just fine if they are on DVB-S transponders if you have the appropriate software codecs on your PC or HD decoding chipsets in your STB.
If you don't have a DVB-S2 card then you can't tune into any DVB-S2 transponders, period. With an increasing use and migration towards DVB-S2 you'd be silly to buy hardware that can only tune into DVB-S transponders. Eventually all sat transponders will move over to the more efficient DVB-S2 standard. There is a price difference for DVB-S2 chipsets which is the result of patent royalties and other manufacturing costs.
Thanks Davemel
Obviously the DVB-S2 card is the best long term bet.
Now I know what I need to get I will be looking out for good price
Thanks Again
davmel,
i understand things are moving towards DVB - S2.
But the primary question still remains, why to DVB - S2?
Because you can fit more channels into the same transponder bandwidth.
Specifically for Optus C1/D3 transponders which have a spacing of 40 MHz with regular DVB-S you can get 38.4 Mbps of data per transponder, but with DVB-S2 you can get 51.2 Mbps per transponder due to more complex 8PSK coding.
Almost all operators in the sat industry have DVB-S2 in their future roadmap since it means more channels (both SD and HD) on existing transponders. The only thing holding it back is all the legacy DVB-S only equipment already in the field.
Hi,
I use The AzureWave AD-SP400, it is S2, has short protection (antenna in) and separate power supply socket. Works very good for me.
Cheers
My Skystar DVB-S HD works well. A bit of a pain getting the right driver, but once I found the right one it's rock solid.
Dishboy.
Just chasing my tail and getting nowhere.
In my last life, I must of been a dog.
There is a new card made in Germany with 2 S2 tuners. If someone interested,
Cheers

TBS6981 is the updated version of TBS6980. It works better.
One limitation I have found - as I am just setting up my Media Centre, is the limited support for Windows 7 - in particular the 64 bit OS.
One card I have read abit about and bought from ebay germany (it is no longer produced) and is still supported by Pinnacle is the 7010iX it has 2x DVB-S 2x DVB-T.
Another one that is supported by Win 7 32/64 bit is the Hauppauge WinTV HVR 4400.
Hopefully the 7010ix is worth it - should be here in a week.
