    Default DM518s DHCP lost

    Hi All,

I was able to stream video from my 518s to pc via 10.1.1.4:31344 till I unchecked the DHCP box in network settings and hit save. Since then no matter what I have tried, the address stays on 192.168.0.0. It recognises the nameserver as 10.1.1.1 but nothing else changes. I have booted several times with DHCP on/off, with the cable in/out. I have also reset the router.

My goal with unchecking the DHCP box was for it to stay on 10.1.1.4 as I had made a shortcut on my desktop pointing to that address.

    Any help appreciated.

    malcolmturnbull.

Reflash the box and try again.

no do not flash the box.

Simply enter in the old details with your remote control. Save it and then restart enigma and it should be working.

I have no experience in flashing and really shouldn't have to go down this path to revert a setting that is in the menu, but I'm sure this option will work.

I have been through many different network configs with no success.

the details that I am sure would have worked but never were:

    IP address as 10.1.1.18
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    name server 10.1.1.1
    gateway 10.1.1.1

I tried a few different IP's and changed nameserver and gateway to 10.1.1.0 and rebooted after each network change and confirmed each change was saved when it was back online. I have checked and unchecked dhcp, booted multiple times and the dm518 still does not show up on my network (no pinging even when manually set). The blue network light responds each time when it boots up.

When I get home tonight I am going to plug it straight into the router/modem and see if that may help as the dm518 sits behind two switches.

Thanks for your responses, any other suggestions?

If you have a laptop and a crossover cable plug it into that and see if you can telnet to it. You'd need to have the two on the same subnet of coarse.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll dig up my crossover cable tonight.

Finally got it working again, just in time for the Tour!

I moved all the cables in the upstairs switch one place to the right. It was working fine on the downstairs switch but was not receiving a new address on the upstairs switch even after a power off and on.

    Thanks to those who assisted.

For DHCP to work as you want
    1 Must have DHCP server
2 Assign DHCP on Dreambox(all settings will clear)
3 Ensure DHCP server has a Dreambox MAC assignment(resserve the MAC to an IP of your choice)

    DHCP can work 2 ways
1 Just assign the next available and valid network address
2 Always assign the same unique network address identified by MAC network card

    Most people use option 1
But option 2 is preferred so you always know the box IP will be the same.

Generally the option 1 the IP can change as there is a time to live on DHCP IP addresses. This would prevent the next device grabbing your IP if you box is off at the time. Only time another device may grab your IP if your TTL expires while your dreambox is off.
