    Default Jaycar phoenix type sc reader/reprogrammer (KC5342)

    Hi ,

    I have this Jaycar phoenix type sc reader/programmer (KC5342) . Just wanted to to know if it can be as a reader for gamma card for sharing.

    ... not sure about the KC5342? ... I presume its a MKI?

    ... if so, it should be OK provided you can put it into phoenix mode ...

    But many members here use the KC5361 devices and most of the time they work well ...

    ... I say most of the time because the RS232 interface is not always implemented to spec on different receives and their associated serial ports. As a result there are some 'mods' you ?might? need to make to your JayCar for it to work reliably ...

    ... there are numerous posts on this subject in this forum ... so don't be afraid to 'search'

    Thanks eyesee . My programmer is MKI . I used it before for goldie/silver. I am aware of the mod of MKII but I would like to know if MK1 works.

    ... have not seen the cct diag for the MKI - but from the receiver side all that's required is correct level RS232 (MAX232) and a good (stable) power and clock for the card ...

    I think the MKII had some additional features for programming ... the reader function is most likely same - does it have 2 crystals (3.57 and 6 meg)?

    ... perhaps some of the other members have direct experiance they could share with you

    hey tican2 - somebody gave me an old jaycar kc5342 just yesterday
    I got it powered ok - now what can I use it for ?

    U can use it to program EEPROM of goldies or as a phoenix card reader.

    thank you tican - a whole new world of pain
    - will give me sumthin to sink my teeth into

    phoenix card reader - i have seen (and ignored) in the CCcam stuff - so I can start there
    After that what is the best program to program a goldie ?
