BUMP,
Anyone any suggestions?
Hi
Have just replaced a laptop mainboard, but seems to be a dud mainboard, sometimes boots up to logon prompt fine, sometimes boots up but no video(can hear it booting up and see HDD lighting up, dont even see the BIOS screen).
Have connected an external screen and the external screen comes up with a cursor and can move it around then hangs after about 15 seconds then a red line appears across the top of the external screen and a little red square in the middle of the screen, and hangs. I think it is bluescreening. Strange how I only get video on the external screen when at "supposedly logon prompt". In my testing when it was booting fine I had the external screen connected also and it replicated the laptop display, so the external screen is OK.
Likely Mainboard issue?????
Cheers

BUMP,

Try memory, most laptops used shared system memory.
was it a new mobo?
did you replace it youself?
have taken out both sticks of RAM, swapped arnd made no difference, but wuld this affect video (ie not even seeing BIOS screen)??
Replaced MB under warranty, possibly DOA?
Cheers
