    Default Fluorine and toothpaste.

The lead in to this is the first video which shows how reactive Fluorine is which is pretty scary stuff.

The video points out how Fluorine binds with the teeth to prevent decay.

Thankfully a far less reactive form of Fluorine.

    Cool

Don't think Fluoride is the same as fluorine

Talking The analogy is completely out of context with reality.

In molecular chemistry, you cannot postulate that the properties of an element, or for that matter, all compounds containing that element, have the same or similar properties.

Sodium and Magnesium are another case in point.

You don't think twice about putting common Salt on your meals, or medical use of Glauber's Salt, but you would kiss yourself goodbye if you ingested either of those elements as such.

A largish dose of Warfarin should calm you down.

I am not suggesting there is pure Fluorine in toothpaste.

The professor at the 5.24 minute mark on the first video talks about Fluorine reacted with Tin or Sodium to give the Fluorine an extra electron giving Fluoride. As in Sodium Fluoride or Tin Fluoride

Yep, Fluorine and Fluoride are different.
Fluorine the element and Fluoride a compound of Fluorine are like the difference between
    Chlorine and Salt.

The same cause for Fluorine's high reactivity also makes most of its compounds very stable.

Another example, Hydrogen and Oxygen. Both very reactive gases form a very stable compound.

Just as a bi line, many years ago i worked for Comalco, part of my training was to go to Bell Bay Tas to inspect aluminium production, and one of the toxic by products was fluride which they were using as land fill in the dross
Some one had the bright idea of trying to find a commercial use for it so they could get rid of it and the only thing they could think of was adding it to the water under the pretext of improving teeth quality, so if you are a greeny living down that way take a toxioloy test and you will find fish with the best quality teeth as it leaches into the Tamar (?)
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
