The ACMA has announced that a topic of discussion has been placed on its agenda.
A proposal has been put forward that all Satellite Dishes used for the reception of Satellite Television will have to be licensed.
The proposed license fee's for this license will have two main sections for domestic users, and a 'professional user'.
A professional user will be one who engages the use of a large dish (2.3 mtrs and larger) typically for the reception of C-band signals.
Fees would be KU band $150.00 aud PA, C-band $185.00 aud PA, professional user $300.00 aud PA. These fee's are per dish. A user with for example a KU and a C-band dish will require two licenses.
The fees will be used to fund inspectors who will have the right to request presentation of this license. Failure to present a relevant license will result in an on the spot fine of $500.
The proposal will be available for public comment for one week after the ACMA meeting, however the Minister for Communications has indicated he would see no problem in the motion being passed. Pay tv companies, who are the most affected by this license would simply pass the fee onto their customers the Minister said.
