    Default corrupted map file igo8

Hi. I picked up an 8'' ups with nav n go Ig08 with Australian maps included on a 2 gig sd card in Feb 2009. Ebay Item number: 130389957569 for the same unit on sale today. In the maps folder on the card is a file "australia.fbl" around 75 meg in size.
The unit has an inbuilt batttery, but I didn't have the charger in correctly and the battery went flat just as the unit was halfway through starting up.
Now when it starts it tells me that it is unable to read the australia.fbl file and then it blacks out and turns off. The unit is looking in the right location for the file , but the file seems damaged. Is it just a matter of me replacing the australia.fbl file?

    Thanks in advance.

You are probably better off installing igo 8.3 with the latest map. There are numerous threads about it and links.

    Default Corrupt Map File

    Hi Plough,
That version is well superseded. I would certainly follow the advice offered and upgrade, unless you have any good reasons to stick with 8.0.0

Hi, and thanks for your reply.
No real reason to stick with the old 8.0.0 version. I just never had any problem untill a few days ago. Now my gps has tuned to crap and this is all new to me. I just accidently turned to text to Chinese, so now I can't read a thing.

    nah I still failed.
I extracted to new 8.3 , then added the new maps to the maps folder, but there is no exe file for me to point my device to.

Just put the program ( igo 8.3 ) on the device or on an SD card. You dont have to go through an installation process, igo exe is in the files you downloaded.

    Thanks Sanity.
I extracted the new zipped version over the top of the old version and gave it permisssion to verwrite existing files. (I backed up first of course)
I then added the new maps.
I started the gps and got the error message
    Failed to open file: ui_igo8\480_234\loading.bmp
A quick search of the forums found a few users with the same problem. So I dl a new data zip file from Bazzle01 and replaced my data file with his. (Thanks Bazzle01)
All seems to be working now. Well it starts up (i'm inside the house with the unit) with no error messages and doesn't shut down when I put in Brokenhill as a destination. Before I was getting errors on some locations, like Perth, S.A and so on, and yet other locations like Sydney still seemed to work fine.

Take it outside for a try mate. It can take a while to connect with new programs for the first time.

Went out and gave it a try. It connected and seems to work. Tried adding a destination and it works, had the Australian femail voice telling me to turn left , and so on.
But I noticed the speed and redlight cameras don't seem to be on the maps.
I have them dl and in a folder contents/speedcam. There are 3 seperated files in there. Australia.spb, 11kb and speedcam.spdb 12kb and lastly speedcamupdates.spud

Also the default start location is in Victoria , is there a way of changing it?
Lastly my sys.textdoc file seems very basic compared to eveyone elses I have seen on the site. Am I missing sonething?

There are more things you can ad like TTS ( text to speech ) where the voice actually says the names of the streets etc, buildings which shows large buildings in 3d, car icons etc

I did upload it originally with the R17 map in the thread I made, but someone might have to re upload them for you as I dont have them on this PC.

As to settings there are many so it will pay to spend a bit of time going through them all. There are also different skins , Dimka is one of the most popular.
