    Default "gamma" cards country code

can anyone confirm that the cards off the street all have the invalid country code XAU?
if so, and i know it's a stupid question but, does anyone have/know of a way to change it?

Is XAU invalid? It never used to be...

Most boxes are coco independent these days...

Sorry, ignore the invalid bit, but do they all have XAU in common?

For CoCo dependent units it is the code for the old "analogue" crapstar bouquet, I believe.

Yes , they are all XAU from what I have seen.

In the old days , country codes were rotated every 2-3 weeks as people used their provider box with gold cards. Aftermarket boxes were not common and Humax's were over $800.

xau is for austar always has been
each provider has its own coco
all white cards for austar will have xau
thier was a dth coco which alowed both austar and fox channels but this changed every few weeks and to get around this the dual coco codes were developed

Is it possible to force your A*tar box to grab the new channel lists instead of the old set off of the "white" cards mentioned briefly in these forums ?

Straight from the stream, Mods delete if not appropriate, but it seems allright to mention XAU, also interesting to see old Poxtel Coco's still there, not sure how many are still used, but they are there.

    Yes you can.

I have done it by setting up a NewCS server with the White card in it, and using CSClient.exe as the client, this client software allows you to change the coco in the ini file.
I used the DTH coco, which is XYZ from memory, you can then hold the TV button down on the remote control for about 5 seconds and the DTH menu will come up and you can choose the bouquet you want, well it works that way on a ADB 8776 any way.

CSClient.exe was given to me as a "do not share" file, so I will not supply a copy of it here.
It was however, openly shared on this forum before the crash, so there are plenty of people here with a copy, I'll let one of them post it up.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave

Brings back a few memories of the old days. Remember Austech's server overloading everytime they changed the DTH coco ?

    Long story...

Back in the old days when Gold Cards first appeared on the scene , people used their Foxtel or Austar decoder as aftermarket receivers werent freely available and those that were , were very expensive ($900 plus per receiver ).

So people who had a service usually went down to the minimum package and used a gold card in their receiver , some were lucky enough to get hold of one but ex Foxtel/Austar receivers just werent around in those days unless you subscribed.

Foxtel/Austar receivers were Coco dependant. This means that they would obey whatever country code was on the card and that providers could set the coco. They also ran Bouquets - Foxtel , Austar , afew others I can remember and DTH ( Direct to Home ).

Only the DTH Coco would open up all the channels from memory. They didnt change the Foxtel and Austar coco's very often as everyone wanted the DTH coco. So if the current DTH coco was ARG , you would have to put that on your card when you made it.

Around once a month , everyones screens would go blank because they would change the DTH coco to another one. They are all 3 letters. When they changed it , Austech's server would near buckle at the knees as thousands logged on to see who knew what the new coco was ( only loggers did ) and they would then play a guessing game that would infuriate the masses until they worked out what the new coco was and changed it on their card and got pictures again.

For another month Humax receivers appeared on the scene and were not affected by coco changes but they were about $850.

    Times have changed
