Default Garmin GPS II (2) Plus.

I have a Garmin GPS II Plus with a stuffed Lithium Back up Battery.
The software version is 2.04 copyright 1997.
Can the software be upgraded ? IF so can I do it myself .
The reason I am asking is that urban myth tells me that after 10 years the Gps wont be able to predict where to find the satellites much longer.
Tks for reading this message Newtoy.

Every time your GPS unit is in line of site of a GPS satellite and turned on the first thing it does is download the almanac of satellite positions and predicted positions, its got nothing to do with 10 years. That and the LDOP and GDOP (how long it takes is detirmined by the time and distance since last turn on). The almanac is progressively updated.
