I would be leaning towards a Bios update
Trying to upgrade a lappie from 1gig (2 x 512) to 4gig (2 x 2gb). Have checked specs and definatly supports 2 gig sticks and total 4gig. With 4 gig in get to logging into XP, and screen freezes and goes all pixelated, have to cold boot. Have tried different sticks of RAM and makes no difference. Put just one 2gig stick in (either slot), works fine, but anything over 2 gig freezes, screen pixelates etc. ANyone have any idea, need BIOS update ?? With 2 x 2 gig in, the BIOS shows 4gig..... strange??? Also makes no difference if in safe or normal mode.
Cheers

When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
XP (Unless xp64bit) does not support above 3gb.
bios update should fix the problem and as mikey stated 32bit xp does not support anything above 3.25GB as i have 4GB of ram but windows only detects 3.25
good luck
All the above is true, but also ram can be very fussy and only likes to work with ram it finds compatible with itsef. I've also heard that loptops need ram specifically from the manufaturer who made the laptop, although I can not see this to be true.
Thanks guys gave up, happy with just 2gig, should have done BIOS update....couldnt give a ...... now.
