I have a foxtel IQ2 HD box and I am sick of recording and deleting as I run out of space.....Can you guys tell me if I can use my original foxtel card in a dreambox HD 800????...I am not interested in CS , I only wish to record and later take my recordings out and save them into my storage device!!!! Is such a thing possible???

    They come without drives.
You can fit a new/recycled 2.5" laptop hdd if you want to.

I prefer to recommend a Esata hdd caddy.
That way the drive has it's own power supply instead of sharing the 3A supply with the dm800.
It also allows the box to breath better and dissipate heat. If you use an internally mounted laptop HDD, it tends to block off the vents, so they run a bit warmer.

I supply them. I'm in Newcastle on the East side. Australia post gets them to the other side cheap enough though, so it's not really a problem

Stick with Fernbays recommendation. I have a 500gb esata attached to mine and it works a treat.

I have been looking at the rear connections and its got only a LNB Input and a LNB Output (loop), can you then tell me how this units can do the same as a Foxtel IQ2????. The IQ2 has 4 inputs, from which only 3 are enabled, so you can record 2 HD channels and preview another one at the same time. Also the dreambox 800HD has no HDMI output, so how do you hook it up a TV? via Scart only?

Comes with a HDMI cable and you can only record while watching if it is on the same transponder with the dm800

Ahhhhh it comes with DVi rather than HDMI, I am answering my own question. But what about sound???? (Dvi has no sound, right?) It looks like it comes with Digital audio, but what about if I dont have an amp to connect the digital audio IN????

It will come with a dvi to hdmi cable which gives you the sound through the hdmi. It works well.
Stick with Fernbay or some of the other long standing members on the forum who deal in these boxes.

the dm800hd is a single tuner box so only one lnb in
    foxtel iq2 is multituner
you would need the dm8000 for multiple tuners - but then you would need a new mortgage too
I recommend the dm800hd from Fernbay - go for two of the boxes if you want multiple tuners
also external esata is best to reduce heat and power supply load
