There are suburbs not 30minutes from the Perth CBD that still have no broadband. The best anyone can provide at the moment is slow and expensive 2 way satellite.
Been trying to get an Internet solution for a property in Lilydale, Victoria.
What a complete joke that place is, and it's considered part of Melbourne.
No ADSL2 in the Exchange, not even Telstra... Non in Mt Everlyn Exchange either
And worse, there is ads and bill boards for Wireless Broadband everywhere in the area and its not even available there.... no 2100mhz 3G and no 900mhz 3G.
Best you can get is GPRS...
Rang all the companys today to ask them personally and that is what everyone one of them told me...
Seems ADSL1 at 8meg is the best option.
Can anyone help out here... Anyone in the area with a reasonable solution?
God, i live in full on country rural, even we have ADSL2.
Seems so strange for a place like Lilydale....

dont worry, mr conroy and ms fillhard will fix it all up when they get voted in.
I'd be taking ADSL1 @8mb I think. But yeah, its a big enough place I would have thought a few providers would have equipment in the exchange.
Umm what no ADSL2, thats not what I read
Of course I'm guessing you dont have a direct copper line to the exchange and it goes though a RIM that only supports ADSL one (you at least have that, I dont have that choice). Its a common thing in areas built after 1970 (mine was converted over in 1980 because an optic fibre cable ran though the area), which is why so many people have bitched to the governments in the past. Unfortanetly the liberals stated Satellite was the answer, at least Labor has decided thats a crock of ....... and decided to put in a decent network (which got cheaped out by telcom under labor, maybe they feel guilty)

You could also look at this link but apparently they have limited ports.
Did not realise it is the same site.

Great site guys, much appreciated.... Never seen it before.
Only going on information given to me by providers that i rang directly and gave actual address (rang today).
Which were Telstra, iinet, aanet and Exetel.... All said NO ADSL2 available
As Sanity said, ADSL1 at 8Meg is a good option, i used to be on it... was great.
But i'm in the country... Lilydale is in Melbourne...
Pretty sad really.... Ironically, on the Hwy there is Cable available.
..... best solution i could find for this property was Telstra ADSL1 8meg 50gig with a phone line for $59 for 24months.
And now that site shows ADSL2 available in limited slots... Mmmmmm
When i read again on the link, says map is an approx and for detailed info you should ring the provider.
Provider says NO... site says YES...

You could also try Whirlpool forum for some help .

Other thought is if you are going with Telstra, then is there Cable. Some places in Melbourne can get up to 100Mbit (I think its still bundled though), but it would be a minimum of 30Mbit (depending on network traffic) at the lowest, and the same price as ADSL1.
LOL, I'm 15 mins from the city in Adelaide and I cant get ADSL1. I have a mate who is 7 mins from the city and cant get any broadband (I dont count 3G as broadband)

There is no Cable on the streets of Liliydale (Only out on the Hwy that runs through Lilydale)
Rang again today, still no ADSL2 in the Exchange...
ADSL1 @ 8Mg still the only REAL option.... but even taking one of the Telstra Deals, it's still $81 a month for Phone Line Rental ($21) and 50GB for ADSL1 ($59.95)...
Its not as cheap as people make out... Bloody $$$$ if you ask me.
Better option is the $29 a month Phone Line rental (at least you get Free Local calls), but then again, you are up to near on $90 a month just for the internet..
Doesn't matter which way you turn, they get you somehow.
Same thing with iinet is $109 a month, christ that price hasn't changed in years. I was on that package 2 years ago.
Thanks marty, yes i have been on Whirlpool, just to use the ADSL finder tool thing....
Of course the next step is bundle everything (Mobile, Land Line and Internet) which is EXACTLY what they are forcing you to do on a 24month contract, just so you can have it for $10 cheaper a month.
So now that i am looking at $80 to $90 a month for this customer, i'd do anything not to use Telstra... there must be better deals out there for ADSL1.
I'm paying $49.95 a month for 25 gig @ 8 MB with Telstra.
Plan doesn't exist anymore, they changed the plans on the 25th July (guess you missed all the complaints about non-competitive rates). Also is that a bundled plan? I only remember the cable plans. If it is you might be able to get 50Gb for the price of 25gb with an hour phone call to Bigpond.

Spot on..... ISP'S are the new "Mobile Phone Deals" of the 90's.. they have figured out exactly their price points.. and how to lock you in and what the give you...
With all the talk about quota's 1TB+, makes you wonder how much you really pay per MB.
I just went to iinet for a look see... now some great deals if you bundle, but if you don't F' me, price goes up exponentially (I have not looked at it in any more detail than that). It may be ok to bundle (in the long run)
Sorry OB, not helping just agreeing with you. THEY GET YOU ONE WAY OR THE OTHER
bitching about 100mb/in whats the world coming too geez I'd be happy with that for 12 months
then again its the same thing.... 100 in, with 1TB is heres my Ferrari, but you can only drive it at 60km/h lol...
