Hey Bazzy
I'm assuming you mean the multiport valve - I have replaced the o ring in the top of mine - check out
really easy fix, $40 and no more problem

Hay i get my pool serviced professionally once a month. over the last 3 months the pool man has said that my multipart needs to be rebuilt because its very tight and leaking out of the backwash line. he has mentioned it in the last 3 consecutive visits each time i have given authorization to fix it. I am starting to get annoyed that this isn't being done so i chased it up with them today. the pool shop has said that when he is on site they will get the details from the unit and see if it has been ordered and where the order of the parts are at.
I have contacted an astril authorized dealer and they have said the parts are easily available and can be provided off the shelf.
so my question i have is why would i need to keep authorizing the same repair over and over again and the shop not order the parts necessary to complete the repair?
The leak is now fairly substantial, we are up to a trickle of water now running out the backwash all the time.

hey bazzy, if you are a capable person with tools - pop the top and have a look, measure the seal and replace it, the seal is moulded (has to be - due to the way they are made) as for the rotor, check it once you have replaced the seal

I dont know why u get it done that often, I have had a pool for 25 years and have no problem maintaining it. I spend less than 4 or 5 hours a week in the summer
As freakee1 says I have a hurlcon sand filter and have had to change the sand a few times which involves removing the multiport valve and everything inside. Try googling youre system for instructions it wont be too hard
The main reason i get the pool serviced is because i was getting tired of having to run the water sample to the pool shop and having to add things like salt. now i just keep it clean and the pool man just applies what chemicals he needs to. additionally when repairs need to be made they are supposed to be able to do them. for example this time when they came they replaced the basket in the pump because it had broken and lubricated the pump lid gasket with silicon grease. as for most of the other things that need to be done to the pool i will generally do them myself. I just dont like playing with the critical plumbing components of the pool.

Wild guess...'pool man' didn't report it....another wild guess (but not crazy 'coz I've seen it time and again)...'pool man' (or company) has lost favor with parts supplier and is on a cash only buying arrangement?....crazy guess... 'pool man' just wants to annoy you, because he doesn't like you for whatever reason (don't discount this, I've seen it time and again).....<shrug>....I suppose they're the 'obvious' conjectures =)so my question i have is why would i need to keep authorizing the same repair over and over again and the shop not order the parts necessary to complete the repair?
The pool service man did report it. there has actually been a few of them and they have each called it through to the boss back at the shop to order it. this most recent time they indicated that the supplier has a lot of their orders on back order. however i was on the phone to astral and they actually said they have plenty in stock they can send out if the order is made it will be supplied within a couple of days so I really don't buy their reasoning.
I gave another pool shop a call to quote and they didn't seem to want to do the job given the price i received. $100 call out fee plus $80/hour and $200 for the assembly this is absurd because i can buy a complete replacement valve assembly for that price. they also quoted me $900 to change the media (3x15kg bags of course glass, and 5x15kg bags of fine glass).
I have a valve now on the backwash line to stop the water from being lost from the pool for now but if by next month they don't have the part or i get more excuses i will buy directly from astral and put it in myself.
