Holy Crap! Just imagine what the other 20 are worth then!
The old muscle car hey..... back in the early 90's with the price of fuel they were giving them away.....
A HOLDEN Monaro has become the most expensive Australian car after selling for $920,000 - to a bloke wearing shorts and thongs.
The HRT 427 was one of two built in 2002 to showcase Holden and HSV's engineering prowess.
The other is in Holden's concept car collection and is not for sale.
It was bought by a Queensland building industry figure who wants only to be known as "Chooka".
Hearing on the grapevine that Sydney car dealer Classic Throttle Shop was selling the car, he arrived last week for a test drive in shorts and thongs, then purchased it.
The vehicle features carbon-fibre fittings, a 417kW 7.0L V8 and race brakes to haul it down from a top speed of 299km/h. It was built to rival Porsche's track-focused 911 GT2.
"I'm a Monaro fanatic," Chooka confided. "I've got 20 of them, from the first ones in 1968 through to the last one in 2006.
"All are in pristine, low-mileage original condition - so I had to have the HRT 427 to add to my collection.
"These don't grow on trees. As far as I'm concerned it's priceless."
Classic Throttle Shop's Chris Bowden described it as a million-dollar car because of its top-shelf specification and rarity.
"He beat us down a bit, but everyone finished up happy with the price," Mr Bowden said.
The previous record was $750,000 for a Ford Falcon 1971 GTHO Phase III, sold last June.
And Australia's most expensive car ever made is housed in a country garage and up for sale for $1.2m

So "chooka" paid $920k for a HRT Monaro, while wearing shorts and thongs?
Something tells me he would have hung a dirty big burnout, while ficking his mullet head and yelling fully sic out the window. roflmao
His first stop will be to fit a boot load of subs and musical airhorns (dukes of hazzard style)
Id like to find out if it was tested against Porsches time on the Nurburgring for a true comparison.
Then again it is comparing itself against the GT2...only one of the quickest cars.
If it wants a supercar label it should have compared itself to the GT3, the benchmark of all normally aspirated supercars on track.
It would have had more hope but remember that Porsche was won many endurance races (le mans) with this weapon.
If HSV belive that much in the car, take it to Le Mans and put themselves on the map world wide.
Something tells me it hype on paper and a dud on track under real world conditions.

ROFL.....Holden probably would've run off another one for him for less...
The guy obviously has the money and can do what he likes with it.
$920k for a Holden?
Give me a Lambo any day.
I doubt it will go up any further in value....unless another wacko comes along.
As for the the $750,000 XY GT351 I saw it at the motor show at the Shannons display and remembered that a mate and I rolled one around Lake Epalock in '74....God they were aweful cars....36 gallon tank...(that's 170 litres for about 500k's)
Probably the reason they are so rare now is that they were such a pile of crap with the shit steering and suspension it was easy to lose control.
And most people eventually did....So probably best to leave them in a shed somewhere.
Can't for the life of me see $750k for it....
$920,000 for a late model Monaro... what a wanker..
Now if it was Colin Bonds Bathurst winning 327 Monaro then that might be worth it.. What is it with short wearing, bum crack showing, thonged ,fatass builders and ferkin Monaros????
Right now I'd be buying American muscle cars with the dollar the way it is...
haha The great thing about Monaros is that every time a hoon crashes one the value of the rest of them goes up.
