    Default Tuner strengths

I have a dm500s & it is raining outside & the picture is breaking up.

When I had a humax 5410z it seemed to me that it had to rain alot harder before the picture broke up.

Do some decoders need a stronger signal to keep pictures going when it is raining?

    If so which ones?

Some tuners are more sensitive yes.....

My old Humax 5400z shits all over my DM7000
But my new DM7020 would be on a par with the Humax, maybe even a touch better (as they have a different tuner onboard than the DM7000 does)

What you need is a larger dish though, or you need to tweak the one you have a bit
Rain (98% of the time) never makes my pics go out with an 85cm.
SNR and Quality are always in the 90% and above area

When I had the humax I got about 62% signal quality when I had the stb tuned to the optus aurora tuning channel.

I take it you are using a provider 65cm dish?? You really need to tell us.
And depending on where you live in Australia? And you have now told us which Sat you are talking about...... That seems a little poor SNR wise.

But once again it really depends where you live?

It would be fair to say, that 62% SNR using a Humax on the Eastern Coast of Australia for Aurora, off a 65cm provider dish can be improved with fine tuning. See if you can make it better, then adjust your LNB skew for best results. Use your Humax for the fine tuning

Note: If you have one of the older DM500s with the weak tuner, then 62% on your Humax will be very marginal on your DM500

    I am in perth.

After the installer put the 65cm dish in I only got a signal quality of 22% when tuned to the aurora tuning channel on c1.

I played around & got it up to 62% on the tuning channel.

On pay tv channels the signal quality is between 90 & 100% on the humax.

The provider box gets a signal strength of 76db at my house.

I got the neighbours provider box & plugged it in on my house and got a signal strength of 64db.

I plugged my provider box in next door & got a signal strength of 74db.

The dreambox picture never broke up before yesterday & I did not think it even rained hard.

I like the dreambox because I only use 1 remote for aurora & pay tv.

So I think some tuners are weaker than others.

Do those Octagons or Strongs (with cam) have strong tuners?
