Default Dome Camera - 15-CD53 Fault (Technical)

    Hi All,

I have a 15-CD53 Indoor Dome Camera that has a fault on the camera block.

The dome works all ok, PTZ and associated camera menu's are accessible.

Due to a previous fault, the camera motors (zoom/autofocus) were removed, and re-installed. However, putting everything together, calling a camera reset (Pelco-D Call 54 ) the focus goes blurry when in wide mode, and not too bad in tele mode.

Taking the camera apart, resetting the zoom focus, in all different configurations, then resetting, it still goes blurry.

The stepper motors work ok, zoom/focus mechanics work freely.

I think this is a setting up issue but I cannot find a starting point and I am getting a bit annoyed.

Theres only so much stripping down this camera can do without breaking a thin wire.

The camera is a Sony CZ55HM 10x Optical 23x Digital Zoom.

    Any ideas please

    Regards

    Nick

Sounds like the focus is in manual mode.

    PRESET + 54 + ENTER = Full Camera Reset
    PRESET + 53 + ENTER = Self Test
    CALL + 59 + ENTER = Auto Foucs ON
    PRESET + 59 + ENTER = Auto Focus OFF

Also try entering the Module menu
    CALL + 95 + ENTER
Follow menus until you reach ZOOM/FOCUS and set Auto focus to ON.

Cheers for that George, but there is a but....

I've tried all menu options. Took autofocus off, removed the camera body, reset all motors to a good focus. Reset the camera, or even turn the dome on, still goes out of focus.

I have noticed that the focus/zoom motors are synchronised, so a focus is kept when zooming, it still resorts to unfocussed.

It's like a back-focus problem on a fixed camera. There are no back focus controls.

Whatever I do or change, whether manual/digital, it always resorts back to the same image.

I've tried different protocols, and observed them on a rs232 analyser, can't see nothing wrong. Tried 3 different types of control, PC,DVR and 2 types of PTZ Controllers.

Definately a camera block problem, not a menu setting, I am getting to the point where I can't test anything else.

I am getting a dab hand at taking it to pieces. No further on though.

    Cheers

    Nick

I cannot see the people who build these cameras at the factory having this type of problem. There must be an auto calibration built in to these motors because it's very critical when re-assembling. It won't beat me, I will persevere.

Are you sure you can't backfocus?

Yer George. I have the cam block on the bench, and I am now testing the focus opto isolator. It looks as if it ignores it and just goes to any position.

However, these are really small and I don't have a replacement and know not where to get one from.

I put a makeshift one in its place and it is looking a bit better, even though it's not put into the respective place, just piggy backed on the top.

I don't know how this has gone faulty, and maybe its not even that, but as i said, a better result up to now

There is no backfocus at all.

Still no luck. I have bought an outdoor dome camera for now, but I still want this working.

Cheers bud, just the sight of a reply gives me a glimmer of hope and some consolation on this dire predicament that has been born upon me. In other words, anything helps at the present. No-one else knows either....Nick

Out of curiosity, have you tried Sony tecnical support for some help with this problem.

All Sony technical want you to do is call their high-cost helpline. There are no cheaper e-mail options, and they deny ever seeing this type of camera. I don't really want to pay out for info that really should be free. There are no circuit diagrams/service sheets or nothing.

I like to do things cheaply as possible. Hence why I am trying to do it myself.

I'll definately have to persevere with this one.

That's because it's not a Sony. It's only using a Sony CCD, thus it's not Sony you should be contacting.

Regarding the cost of information, I shouldn't be free. Sony spend millions on R&D for their products and have quite an interest in protecting their name and their research. Giving technical information to people willy nilly has the potential to cause huge issues. To give you an idea as to just how tightly Sony control their repairs particularly in relation to their CCTV products, their registered CCTV service centre is in Osborne Park, just out of Perth. One of their majour resellers is in Balcatta about 7km away. Now, given this resellers head office is in Melbourne and it's head office that purchases the product from Sony, any repairs have to be sent from Balcatta to Melbourne back to Osborne Park then back through Melbourne to Balcatta.

Sweet - cheers for that, no wonder they deny ever seeing it then. They answered that without me paying as well, via e-mail.

Looks like i'm up the creek without a paddle.

A new covert CCTV Dome setup, there will be no camera in the dome. How more covert than that.

I have enquired to COP-Security and they have no schematics or serivce manuals to offer. They only offer an installation manual which only describes how to mount it on a wall and get it running. They referred me to their Taiwanese manufacturing plant at which point I have had no response.

Cheers for that George. However, it seems that even if I find the fault, the components required will not be readily available, we live in a throw away market nowadays, I think that's the way they are thinking.

It seems a shame that years ago, a repair would have been easy with standard "BC107's".

As for getting a job, I am quite happy plodding along as I am for now.

I may have another look at it later..

    Regards

    Nick

Those DVRs look like the fake cardboard stuff the furniture shops display in their TV cabinets.
(I'm bound to get flak for this...) Anyone notice the guy in the picture has a raging boner?

    It should work ...in theory
