I think its a fair enough response. If I let my child go 2 years without seeing a specialist when needed, I wouldnt be much of a parent either.
Being out work is no excuse, in fact its in your favor if anything.
What an arrogant p*&^k MP John Sullivan is, I thought this was a very calculated response, He's trying to paint the father of the child as negligent and not attending to the child's health & medical needs, if the father was that type of father why did ne have the need to attend the forum at which John Sullivan was speaking.
Read the story first and then click on the audio, after I listenedd to the audio link, I thought what prick!

i agree with sanity on this one. reason - i felt the father is the type who prefers to let others take responsibility for everything. he says he cannot work due to bad feet. strewth ive got real bad arthritis in my feet and i still go to work.
there are other jobs out there that dont require 100% health.

While the health system sucks, the parent should be able to scape up $300 to pay the specialist. He even states he will only get $180 back so that means he will only be $120 out off pocket ?
The ABC Radio interview this morning the father said he was was shopping and he saw the radio event and went over to see if he could ask Mr Sullivan a question about his problem.
I'm afraid I have to agree too - waiting two years to get your kid looked at 'cos you don't have $300 pretty much constitutes gross negligence. I'd be very skeptical that the father never smoked, drank or drove his car somewhere for a non-essential reason in that time.
Your kids' health comes first, full stop.

What a poor excuse as a parent!!!!!
wtf? he cant put aside a lousy $2 per fortnight out of the $100 he would get in family tax benefit for the kid!!!!!!
Maybe he should turn around and walk into the supermarket behind him and go up and down the isles writing down product codes with the corresponding 1800 numbers, ring the manufacturers and tell them the product tastes like arse, he will soon have a fist full of $5 to $10 vouchers that he could use to save enough to get what is needed. Although I fear they would probably be used at Dan Murphy's?

just saying, and one know what the pollie earns a yr? not saying he is wrong BTW!
"Mr Sullivan, the Labor MP for the marginal seat of Longman, this morning said he had ``apologised profusely'' for appearing to call into question Mr Murphy's parenting skills during a live radio exchange." I think that may be the point.... time and place... he got it wrong.
If you feed ducks at a pond, chances are your bound to feed a goose or two without even knowing it.
Yeah usually they would handle the question different not to offend anyone.
Just out of curiosity, considering I've never been a corporate ladder-climber, public servant or a big fan of bob brown....what exactly does "arse" taste like or shouldn't I enquire?
maybe like deer according to the story attitude told.
A hunter kills a deer and brings it home. He decides to clean it, prepare it, and serve the deer meat for dinner. He knows his kids are fussy eaters, and won't eat it if they know what it is, so he doesn't tell them.
His little boy keeps asking him, "What's for dinner dad?"
"You'll see", he replies.
They start eating dinner and his daughter keeps asking him what they are eating.
"Ok", says her dad, "Here's a hint. It's what your mother sometimes calls me."
His daughter screams..."Don't eat it, Jimmy !...... It's a ####ing arsehole...!!!"
Speaking of arse - Didn't John Sullivan get his well and truly kicked by Wyatt Roy.
Sullivan now knows what Florsheims taste like too.
I wonder whether those comments are directly responsible for his loss or was the writing already on the wall ? Either way, it looks like a lot of people have been prepared to take a gamble on Wyatt Roy so good luck to him.
Youngest MP in Australia's history.
Had to laugh when someone accidentally turned the lights off at his office and someone said "Your parents are home - the party's over".
The young fella comes across as pretty smart and quite articulate. Dunno how he'll go but good on him.
Had to laugh at a TV segment during the week where Roy was posing for pics with Abbott; when they moved apart Roy said "thanks, mate" and Abbott looked almost bemused before replying with an amused "well said"". Cocky young git
Looks like the father was telling porkies
Father who took out ALP MP Jon Sullivan recants
Now, however, Mr Murphy wants to set the record straight. He admits he was being less than truthful when he spoke up.
Mr Murphy told The Australian yesterday that over the past three years since their move to Queensland from Victoria, he and his wife, Michelle, had not been on any long waiting lists to see a specialist. They have barely waited at all. And the specialists have said there is nothing wrong with Bailey.
"I was a little bit confused when I spoke up, and what I said was stupid," he said.
"We were not waiting for two years. We are not on any waiting lists and we have never been on any waiting lists."
It would seem that there may have been neferious people at work in regards to this piece of journalism.
The Liberals wouldn't stoop so low, with an election campaign running, would they?
