Hi I'm a first time user
I have recently acquired a free Pace TDS460NF ( ) fox*el digital satellite set top unit with card and i was wondering if it was possible to hook it it up to my television and use it for free, which brings me to my second problem.

Many years ago i had cable fox*el installed, not satellite, and i was wondering if there was anyway i could use this.

You seem to be under some sort of misconception.
The card alone is useless unless it is for a valid, current subscription.
The only thing free in this life is your Obituary, and someone else has to pay for that.

Take it easy, perhaps other solutions to your dilemma?
