Wii Bricking Risk

A word of advice please from you learned people...

A family member has an early Wii with Wiikey installed, working perfectly. It gets firmware updates via internet, as recently as a week ago.

Hired Donkey Kong Jet Race (original, PAL), and it shows up as a Firmware Update, and warns that it might damage a non-original console; press power button for 4 seconds to cancel.

My question is whether there is really any risk of bricking the console, and what is it applying given the Wii has been updated since the game was released?

If it is a PAL console, a PAL update wont hurt it.
Get hold of wiikey firmware update 1.9s, burn it to a disk and update the wiikey chips firmware as has some new protection features againts DVD updates.
I've got it on my website in the downloads section if you need a setup PAL image to burn.

Dont use that one on yours Joey, you have a D2CKey mate. Not that it will work on a chip that isnt a WiiKey anyway.

my DC2 key is trying to update with it....NFI what version

I think the jap version of mariokart had 3.1 on it , but the aus version of it has 3.2

If you have a D2Ckey and any PAL game asks for a update it is fine to update (provided the console itself is PAL)

My MarioKart(unpatched) does not have an update on it....& I'm running V3.1E.
Can any1 confirm its released with V3.2E?
