    Bit of a random question.

I have a unit very similar to this. Have you ever attempted to back up the video files?

I backed up a few of my files onto a USB drive however they come off with a .H264 file extension. I can't find anything to play them on my mac or windows for that matter..

Also do you know if you can run different software/firmware on these things? I have found online that you can download software and stuff but does it have to be model specific and what not.

To answer your query from yesterday, in order to view the archived footage, you'll typically require a Codec or player which is usually shipped on a CD with the DVR.

As for running different software/firmware on the machine it's self, the answer is usually no excepting of course firmware updates from the manufacturer. Having said that, some of the bigger names, (We'll call them Pacom & ADI) have the same product that's rebadged and has customized firmware. Essentially, their machines (some models at least), can run each others firmware. Not that you get any more features though. As for remote access or CMS software, although most manufacturers ship their own, there are some developers out there offering third party solutions.

If it's cheap and Chinese, chances are you're sh*t outa luck.

I've not found any updates for the DVR yet. It says on the sites that they are flashable, never found any yet.

However, it's still going well. Never had a hiccup! [ yet ]

    Default Bit of a problem

Oh well, the Composite Video output has failed, therefore cannot pipe video around the house. After e-mailing Globeteck, they replied " Never heard that one, tech guys informed", meaning we don't care, I assume....

Shame I was giving it a 100% outcome, but just after the guarantee run out, a problem comes. A time bomb software program as usual on new equipment I guess..

    Damn them........

Happy New Year everyone, I know the thread is old, but hey, it's an update..

    Cool

As I tell everyone I talk to - the warranty is the most valuable part of these cheap DVRs.
