Default Plug and play grid tie inverter?

Okay what is the story with this thing? I didn't think you could just plug one in to a wall socket for small panels? Is it illegal? Is it dangerous? Will it burn the house down and electrocute everyone in it? All of the above?

Edit, I see The SWEA inverter is NOT YET AS4777 certified. It is underway.

It's illegal , these things have not been Approved in Australia
Note: The SWEA inverter is NOT YET AS4777 certified. It is underway.

It's been "underway" for years , none of these eBay toys have been approved for Australian use yet , be very surprised if they ever are.

That's what I thought. Still, I'll keep half an eye out if one ever gets certified for use in Australia.

Sounds like a very interesting product. I discussed a concept like this some ears ago with friends and they said it couldn't be done.

I would be interested to see if they get certification.

It would also be an incentive to lose a bit of weight by by hooking up some sort of dynamo through this inverter!!!!

BTW, do the new smart meters spin in both directions, ie for using or selling power?

The SWEA inverter is now AS4777 certified!

That is very surprising and alarming at the same time , hopefully not to many get hurt with these things.

in wa the smart meter is digital and records usage and time of day also records amount to grid and times, no spinning dial only a red light if using mains

A lot of people still have the older type meters and yes they do spin backwards but Synergy can't put you on the smart tariffs and pay you the correct REBS with an old meter , so they come out and change them at your cost of course .

And some the disc spins backwards but the actual total reading does not. Have noticed this on some of the SA Meters mainly early email meters

    Cheers

Plan carefully before getting your meter changed. I am about to enter into a dispute with Tru Energy. Prior to installing solar I enquired about changes to my existing tariffs in relation to determining the cost effectiveness of the solar installation. They informed me my tariffs would remain the same and I would benefit from the Premium Feed In Tariff. After spending $9k I have just found out that the information they have given me is incorrect, they even admit telling me this, and are jacking up my tariff rates by about 25% making the whole installation marginal at best and possibly a liability depending on the power useage.

I urge you all, very strongly, to download and watch "Fall of the Republic".
You will then find out the true cost of water, electricity and weather.

Has anyone had any dealings with these products yet? I have got some panels for my caravan and would like to make the most of these!

I've been tempted but have 1 million other projects on the go at the same time. I did email the people about the SWEA inverter though and at the time they quoted me $300 for it I think it was.

One disadvantage is, unlike government subsidised installations the sell price would be the same as the buy price per kwh. I think.
