Look at the last 'blacklist' - they banned a dental surgery's website.

This is symptomatic of the whole censorship debacle. It will cost hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, and be cracked in half an hour.

    Typical govt stupidity.

Its quite an interesting one because I was only playing around with the filter on KIS 2011 yesterday.

I turned the filter on " teenager " to see what it would block, and it simply blocks on words in links, ie, a couple of threads on Austech came up as blocked due to one word being in the thread. It looks like the government have used a similar type of filter doing exactly the same thing.

Wannabe politicians struggle with politics these days let alone other fields of knowledge.
I was similarly gobsmacked when Labor publicised fibre can actually achieve Gb/s quite adequately only midway through the campaign. I doubt I'd be far off the mark if it went somethng like " ... huh how fast did you say this thing goes? Quick call in the town crier."

We may well not pay them enough but boy we give them enough staff and industry consultants that you'd expect a more informed lot. Especially during a campaign period. I think it was actually the Greens communications spokesman that proved to be ahead on knowledge of what he was talking about by a long shot.

AFAICS hey haven't actually filtered it, they're just auditing their internet activity. Still bloody stupid though.

Yes I know they havent filtered it, I said had a similar issue using a filter. An entire news article or an entire forum thread would get blocked based on it finding a word like " weapon " if it was filtered for violence or finding the word " sex " if it was filtering for porn. It sounds like their audit is counting things in a similar manner. It then lists the site as " adult " and everytime you access a page on that site its claimed as a visit to that site.

Thats exactly what happened to me as well, I set the parental control in KIS2010 and while in the general chat sectioon of austech, I clicked on the "election whorestrading" thread of which it was immediately blocked, I guess it had something to do with the word whore. just checked and the setting is set to child.

Hmm, I must have misunderstood it when you said "It looks like the government have used a similar type of filter doing exactly the same thing."

It looked rather familiar to me

As for the internet I noticed the filter (Webmarshall) at my work also blocks news.com.au, and in fact no internet forums can get through - even sites with no ads aren't accessible. I guess it's a "NoScript" wanabee. Basically, all I get is ABC news, and oddly enough, Wikipedia - and all the swear words and norty pics that come with it

Just ignore z80, he has been crying his eyes out for about 3 years and his entire life evolves around being allowed to post on Austech.

Not sure how I am a Pom, thats news to me. My skins a bit dark to be one
