    Question Igo8 on a Navman Pin570?

    Having spent a few hours helping my son configure his new satnav (igo8) I've been converted to IGO 8, only problem is my current system is a Navman Pin570 running Smart ST 2005

    Anyone know if it's possible? I'm planning on giving it a go unless someone says NO.

    Feeling brave tonight,

    Having read 'Hollowman's' post & that he has igo8 working on a Mio169 (same os as the pin570)

    so I went for it.

    downloaded 8.3.4.117940 and copied onto a 1Gb sd card.
    copied maps from my sons unit
    'United_Kingdom_83_TA_2010.03_100526.fbl'
    tele Atlas BV [100526]
    into the \content\maps folder on the card

    created a sys,txt file with screen resolution + GPS data from the Pin570

    renamed 'application.bat' to igo8.exe

    created a shoutcut to the said exe file & went for it.

    Igo starts to load, display is good, prompted for & sorted language

    ...error message:-

    Map initialisation error.
    'your map files are out dated. Please visit your local dealer'

    oh ***!!

    Here is my 'basic' sys.txt

    [folders]
    app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

    [interface]
    skin="ui_igo8"
    maxzoom2d=6000000
    show_exit=1
    resolution_dir="240_320"
    vga=0

    [rawdisplay]
    screen_x=240
    screen_y=320
    class="portrait"

    [gps]
    port="8"
    baud="9600"

    [tts]
    tts_buffer=131072
    tts_logics=3
    always_say_road_names=1
    announce_street_name=1
    announce_exit_directions=1
    skip_exit_numbers=0
    priority="HIGH"

    So I decided to start again, wiped the card clean & copied it all back.

    clicked the shortcut & in we go. This time all went well got in completely and started going thro the various setting, all sorted bar the GPS signal, not found. Decided to switch off & back on to check that all the settings I had just input were saved....yes..yes.. so to sort the GPS signal

    Here I'm struggling, I can see the orange led flashing so the system is trying to find sat's however in the GPS settings it says GPS reciever not found??

    Do you have a clear view of the sky ? With a lot of programs, on first install it can take a while to get a lock. If thats not the case, your settings are not correct and you are going to have to play around with your com port and baud rate settings.

    try deleting this:
    [gps]
    port="8"
    baud="9600"
    from your sys.txt. Then go into Menu/settings/then scroll across to GPS and make sure GPS receiver is ticked and then tap on autodetect

    I got this info from the current settings for the original (still installed & working) software 'Smart ST 2005' so assumed it to be correct. I'll keep with these settings for a few days, but I don't sort it I'll have to re-think!

    @Sanity
    I'll give it a try today, see if it works any better in daylight

    Thanks guys for the input, it's appreciated.

    Not sure Sanity meant daylight, just outside with no buildings blocking the signal. Try "auto detect" for the iGO. If it doesn't find anything then it's not going to work.

    Smile

    After sitting in my car over lunch today, with the navman on the dash, success lots of sat's in the sky

    I just needed to be patient

    The GPS signal display is showing 6 greens + 4/5 orange sat's so I'm getting a good signal.

    It all seems to be working, tho' I was only able to try a short route home running on the device battery.

    One thing I have noticed, I guess it's a hangover from the smart st software & that is the orange led for the GPS fix flashes continuously, never goes solid.

    I have to turn the GPS reciever on each time I need to use Igo & then off at the end, but that's no big issue.

    It's looking good.

    @SteveN

    Have you tried running in landscape mode?
    I have one of these lying in a cupboard somewhere, might dig it out and have a go, sounds easy and no cracking??!!

    I tried tonight to set to landscape using Igo settings -> device , set screen orientation & then selected one of the landscape options. Both failed.

    I have not tried but at a guess you will probable have to change the sys.txt -

    [interface]
    skin="ui_igo8"
    maxzoom2d=6000000
    show_exit=1
    resolution_dir="240_320"
    try resolution_dir="320_240"
    vga=0

    [rawdisplay]
    screen_x=240
    screen_x=320
    screen_y=320
    screen_y=240
    class="portrait"
    class="landscape"

    These are only a guess, I'm happy with portrait!!

    I've had a couple of trips out now using the navman/igo8 setup & I'm impressed, I have had a couple of "fatal errors" where the system has completely locked. But the navman has switched off & the on again and then worked fine. Unfortunately my passenger just sorted it while I was driving so I didn't see the full dialogue box & detail.

    Default Igo8 on a Navman Pin570

    Just to let you know, my PiN570 is now running iGO8, same version as you used successfully. Not had any opportunity to use it on a trip though, so it's early days yet.
    I have to start up through File Explorer, have been unable to assign key 1 to iGO8.exe and yes the amber led keeps pulsing. Can't remember if it did so, running SmartST.
    Thanks for the inspiration SteveN.

    Oh, and I haven't bothered with landscape either.
    Cheers

    go to File Explorer & nav to the Igo exe file, hold the stylus down on this file & select copy. Then nav back to device/windows/start menu.. scroll dow to a clear area & hold down the stylus again & select paste shortcut. If you go back to the startup screen select the window flag top left corner you should see the igo icon,...just pick & off you go
    One thing I have yet to chase is turning on/off the GPS reciever when Igo starts/ends, but it works as is so I may not bother .

    Once you have the shortcut working you can then assign the shortcut to button one in the normal way, ie windows/settings..buttons, highlight button one & then in the button assignment box scroll down to 'shortcut to Igo8' job done!

    PS
    Glad I was able to give back to the forum, not just take
