What you want to do is a continuity test. Hold the two probes of the multimeter together and flick the switch on the multimeter till it starts beeping at you. Now hold one probe on pin 3 and the other on the chassis of your stb. If it beeps you are in business.

    thanks for your reply,

im using a Radioshack meter, it isnt digital...i did what you said and i didnt get any peeping. i kept the switch on each dial for approx 30seconds and still no beep...

maybe the meter is to old and need to upgrade to digial ? wouldnt think ditigal or not would really matter?? or does it

    I PM'ed this as well.
If you don't have a continuity function just use the ohmeter function. It should read 0 ohms between pin 3 and the chassis earth. What it's telling you there is there is no resistance ie, a short. The ohm symbol is a upside down "U" (kind of).

Grab the manual for your meter and see if it has a continuity mode.

It should be a easy repair for someone who can do it. Open the side of the chip up with a dremel and solder a wire back on.

Any of the skilled modders on this forum could do it. Anyone who can do a Wii mod with cut pins on the chip can do this.

Make sure you don't make it worse bigfella. Take your time with it and when you solder the pin back up you have to be very quick with the iron since you are even closer to the silicon die of the chip.

I did the same on my hummy bigfella, 'twas an easy fix. I grapped a small hobby knife and just kept on scraping.
