well it's obviously not your computer paging if you've got 4gig of ram. Sounds like a weird issue, if it's happening with every program you open I would suspect the hard drive. Have you done any tests on it?

Maybe uninstall your antivirus package and see what happens. Any new software or drivers installed if so remove them. Google chrome can cause problems with 64bit systems.

What's the CPU and memory usage? (windows task manager - ctrl-shift-esc)

    Cheers.

Bit of a strange fault. Searching on the internet I can only find the odd program slowing 64 bit in the way mentioned above.

Boily has it been like this since you installed 64bit or has it only just started playing up. Also wondering what security pack you have installed as I had problems with a customers computer being slow to respond when opening programs with Kaspersky installed.

If The computer works ok when you uninstall Kaspersky, download a copy of Windows Security Essentials and put on ok.

How old is the computer you installed Windows 7 on,

some old computers do not have drivers to support Win 7,

maybe check all devices have drivers installed & are working correctly (in device manager)

also have you installed all updates from windows update.

So Boily, You would have uninstalled Kaspersky by now. Do the programs you use start normally now.
