Hi Boily, Does it blue screen, Does it look like it's going through a proper shutdown, or is it straight off then restarts.

Another idea might be to run the suspect computer in safe mode as only the basic drivers etc will run and see if it shuts off and do the usual malware scans.

It might be blue screening but you might not see it before it auto restarts. So you can turn off auto restart and this might give you some indication of whats going on. Just follow whats written below. Then if it blue screens you can google the error codes to give you an idea of whats happening.

    1.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2.
    Click the Advanced tab.

    3.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

    4.
Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

    5.
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Does it restart by itself or do you have to hit the powerswitch.

Check your eventlog. Most of the time if it is software based it may register why it has done so. Also, download CCleaner and run a full clean including registry. Registry errors can cause random shutdowns.

control panel -> administrative tools -> event viewer -> system logs & applicaton logs... is there anything in there about your computer shutting down?

Eventlogs are a lifesaver in the field. I go to sites to repair DVR's and like always they appear to be working when I get there, so it's good to always check for errors in the eventlog then search the event code on the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Auto restarting after shutting down is usually a bios function.
After AC power loss it can restart or stay off. You can change that in the bios screen

Sounds like it' could be over heating.

Oddly enough I had an over heating problem with mine over the weekend.
It was because the heat sink compound under the CPU heatsink had dried out.
Cleaned it, new heatsink compound, and all is good again

Just to put it in lamens terms

your old computer shut down by itself
new computer shuts down with OS from old computer

Well it has to be software from what you are saying why not load new OS to it instead of ghosting the old image ??
    or
you have a faulty power point ( have to be unlucky if thats it LOL)
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

Yep. And as B4L said, ghosting only works between machines when the boards are similar (i.e. - Using the same chip sets)
Otherwise the windows drivers will be wrong and cause all sorts of grief (unless you get lucky with a mobo that uses all default windows drivers)

Try going to control panel...power options and make sure its not set to turn off after an hour or so.
If you ghosted the image the settings would have carried over from the old computer.
