Default Finally - cheap ADSL2+ in Telstra Wholesale exchanges

This looks promising. For all the download pigs stuck on a Telstra-only exchange (like most people in non-metro areas, I guess) TPG are now offering what seems like on their 'off-net' plans; e.g ADSL2+ 200GB+100GB @ $70/month.

Looks like Telstra Wholesale has woken up to itself at last.

Their customer service though is absolutely appalling. I'd warn about that fist...

Since day 1 i've had speed issues with them on their BUND (zone 2) exchange in VIC. Speed typically varies from 3-9MBps, but after considering the distance and other factors affecting max speed to my house, I should be topping 12-14MBps but I'm nowhere near it and have had to complain constantly, go to the TIO...and even then, I'm stuck doing ping tests, speed tests and other strange crap. Absolute nightmare.

On the flip side, they have the most attractive plans on the market really..I'm on Naked DSL2+

Gettin cheap now..even Optus have $64 120gb (50 peak) then shaped, and home phone rental and calls with value to $30 - I thought this is a good deal.

I wonder if this is them running scared and locking customers in ahead of the NBN?

I think "off net" refers to telstra wholesale aka you are not using the ISP's network, you are using part of telstra. I think it happens at the exchange level. might be totally wrong.

We were only talking about this the other day at work. Being in a rural location ADSL1 was all that was available and until recently ASDL2+ but only Telstra. Obviously uneconnomical for other ISP's to install ADSL2+ so great to hear Testra have decided to whoresale their 2+ service

Just in case anyone's getting confused by the nomeclature being used, it's not actually a telstra service per se. The equipment/copper etc is provided by Telstra Wholesale (same as most of the disparate telcos offering services on telstra lines), but support, backhaul capacity, billing etc on these off-net plans is all TPG.

I've been with TPG before and will probably go back once my current billing period ends - the data allowances and prices look too good to pass up. The TPG call centre merry-go-round can be a little frustrating, (I was lucky cos I had an expat aussie who speaks Pinoy staying at my place the last time I dealt with them, got everything squared away in under three minutes) but I only had reason to speak to them 3 times in the three years I was with them.

I think bambbam's right - all the ISPs are hoping for the largest slice of the customer pie before the NBN gets up and running.
