try ringing MS again , it should make no difference as the warranty is transferable
Hi guys,
I purchased an xbox 360 console only from ebay thinking i'll get it fixed by MS since it has not been opened and the sticker is still in tact.
Issue is MS are asking me for the name of the original owner whose name it is registered under. I bought it off some guy who runs cash converters kind of shop in qld. I asked him and he replied saying he has no details about the person he got it from.
Can anyone spot sum light on me please.... if there is no way of getting it fixed, someone spot me a good tutorial, i've seen many X-clamp fix n all dat, but is there a more solid fix?

thanks for the reply ozchips
the bloke said they cannot help me unless i give them the name of the person who it was previously registered under... reason being it maybe stolen bla bla bla...
It sounds like a lot of crap to me. Provide them with your proof of purchase and insist on the fact if its not reported to be stollen it's not stollen.
I send mine for repair without any proof of purchase. I won it in lottery and no reseipts whatsoever were required.
Received it back with complimentary 1 month Live account.
yeah that is why you should try again , some of these operators just plain hate their jobs and the most exciting thing that happens in their day is annoying customers
you will probably get a different person who will help you out properly
Put a repair request in online, take away the need to deal with the operators completely
But seriously, less questions, quicker and easier doing it online........tez
Do they mean by that it was registered already once with the serial number?
If it has not been registered with them already just give them a fake name to keep them happy and see what they say.
Or as Tez said lodge it online (not sure where thou) I've never had this problem when sending in a few 360s where I was not the first owner.

I will try calling them again today... I had to wait 25 minutes for the call to be answered last time...
When I try to lodge it online it gives me an error message and tells me to call their customer service number.
blue^ray: the serial # has been registered by previous owner whose details I cannot obtain.
Dont ring M$ mate just lodge it on the internet site. I have personally done it before for people and it works well
I did that... and have tried many times with this xbox...

well mate something is obviously not right with that 360. Did you buy it brand new? Was it banned from live?
bought it from eBay from a guy who bought it from someone else...
original owners details cannot be obtained...
Thats crazy typical bureaucracy bullshit that only MS will give you. I was blown away when I found out that nintendo have a 12 month warranty on their products and you can go into the store and get it swapped for a new one, no questions asked!
(Had a customer with two broken wiimotes)
oh well... crap happens.. i changed thermal paste... worked for half hour...
then 3 red lights again....
i cant b f'd bothering anymore... I bought it so I can get it repaired and donate to my cousin lol...
My own XBOX is only 2 month old which works fine, its one of the newer models with HDMI as well...
the 3 year warranty is not transferable and only honoured to the original owner trust me I have been told now by many and return calls to MS make no difference.
I know its crap as the warranty to 3RL should make no difference who own's it
But the fix will cost you $132 and I tell you it will fail again with-in 12 Months
