    Unhappy device not recognised

    Hey all,
I don't know if this is the best place for this or not, but...
I just got one of those cheap ebay chinese gps units.
Its sys info is as follows in case its needed:

    RomVersion:82AV6.YFBAR.0909M21405A.2.5
    sOFTWARE vERSION: V3.6.C89.11.21
    OEM info: YFAtlas4
    Platform ID: 5955414E46454E47
    Device ID: 0000000000000000
    SDCard ID: 00000838

Anyway, when i tried to plug it in to my pc (Vista) to browse the files and add some POI files with the cable supplied, it would connect then disconnect a few seconds later over and over and over again. It also knocked out all my other usb devices plugged in to other sockets (ie my usb modem, flash memory all auto disconnected).
So i went and bought a new generic usb cable. The device connects fine and goes through the whole "new device setup" thing but cannot locate a driver so it picks a suitable one from within windows. Then i get a message that the device is not recognised or has malfunctioned. This keeps happening. I have tried all usb ports available. Because im on vista i cant use ActiveSync and the vista equivalent (whatever its called) does not recognise a device has been plugged in.
So then i tried taking out the sd card and inserting that in my card reader. I can read the files just fine, i even managed to copy them to make a backup, but i cannot write to the SD card it keeps telling me it is write protected, even though the tab is not in the lock position and in file-> properties the read only box is unchecked.
Even when i try to connect via bluetooth, they can see each other but will not pair for some reason.
The seller is of no help whatsoever, and barely even understands my questions. I have googled everywhere, but the terms "GPS" and "drivers" gives a lot of useless responses.
Can anyone offer any help, suggestions, advice etc.?
    Cheers.

I still have the same problem. Device not connected. I have a USB connected to NAVNGo iGO (IGOMyWay) and message comes back device not recognised.

I also tried to use NavieExtra Tools and just comes back as Yellow flags and unknown device.

If I take the sim card and place in card reader the computer can see it via windows explorer, however using NavietoolsExtra, still same problem, device not connected.

    grrrrrr. Help please

I managed to find out that my gps unit has Windows embedded CE6.0

I tries using resinfo and does not even see my device. It does not want to install via USB as it comes back as malfunction regardless if it is Active Sync of Mass Media, makes no difference.. same message every time

yep. definetlly makes no difference to mine.

Message generated when attaching device to computer and switching on GPS

    "Found New Hardware.
A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly
    "

    Message generated by Windows XP.

    "USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
For assistance in solving this problem, click this message"

All other USB connected device work good.

Is the GPS unit via USB buggered?

If I use card reader I have to access it via Windows Explorer (the Flash card that is)

    Any further advice or workarounds?

Now is this the fault with the hardware itself or the software i.e the iGo software ?
