Default Dead ps3 any ideas what's wrong with it?

I picked up a ps3 slim today from my local second hand shop and had the guy turn it on to check the firmware no problems.

I got it home plugged it in got the red light, pushed the power button and tried to turn it on no go.

I get the green light for 1 second and 1 beep then no power at all till I remove and reinstall the power cable then the same symptoms again.

I am new to ps3's and would appreciate any ideas as to what the problem is.

    cheers Scott

I ordered em in with my last order but the silly buggers didn't send them.

Are you handy with a soldering iron? You can repair most PS3 PSU's
Alot of the times it just needs recapping or a fuse has blown.

No I just get a red light and when I hit power it turns green for a second a beep then nothing at all.

Seems a bit strange as it worked in the shop

I have done a few jtags and have been tampering with xboxes for years so I would give it a go.
I will crack it open tonight and have a look I guess.
How much do you charge for power supplys? if they ever turn up lol.

    it's faulty.
why would you want to keep it ?
wouldn't it be easier if you take it back and get a replacement ?

It was the only one they had, also I have fixed xboxes for them before so I dont know if they 100% believe I havent messed with it and it was working in the shop. I would like to keep things friendly as they do me a discount.

He is happy to do a refund but I thought I would have a go at fixing it first.

It does the same as this link but the green light only stays on for a second or so.

I had one like this & was unable to source a replacement so I repaired it to component level.....yours does sound like a power supply but it could also be that the power supply is being loaded down by the mobo....have had that happen b4 also.

Thanks for the reply but it gets stranger.
I have had the unit apart a few times, the thing is I get it to work but when I flip it upside down to put it back together it stops working.

I have worked out an ingenious and highly technical way to fix it if it stops. (seems to do it when I remove and put the power cord back in.)
I give it a good shake and it works.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause or come across this issue before?

It's most likely a PSU issue. Never experienced repairing Slims.

Yeah I think I will buy another one with the same psu so I can swap parts and try to work out what's faulty.

Probably the cheapest/easy way to go.

Thanks everyone for all the replies.

Did you try another powerpoint at the wall? No powerboard etc. I've trouble shooted a few PC issues and found bad board, faulty house electrics etc.

Also take it back to the shop, why put up with something that doesn't work, you have rights. Use them.
