will the software install on w7 ?
if so, have you tried running in xp compatability mode ?
what is the name of the software ?
My 6 yr old Toshiba lappy that until last week I used for semi automated broadcasting has finally and suddenly gone to the happy computing ground and been replaced with a Compaq CQ62 (best optioned within very strict budget).
My problem is 1 software that I use twice weekly on air that won't run on the new machine with W7.
Upgrading the software is not an option ... way too expensive.
Can I make a virtual XP drive, perhaps dual boot, perhaps USB boot drive with it's own O/S.
What are the advantages and pitfalls of these options, if all else fails I may have to retrofit the machine to XP although I don't even know if that will work.
I defer to your expertise and will appreciate your suggestions, tips and hints.

Yes it will install and hey I didn't know there was an XP compat mode, I am a complete W7 newb ..... where do I find it
Software = Simian
Sadly it doesn't appear to want to run in compat mode either ... bugger
I had a look at the website and it doesn't support Win7 at all. So you'll have to go for Virtual PC and run a copy of xp virtual.
What version of 7 are you running.

Home premium
Ok you can't use virtual pc xp mode with Home premium
So have a look of VirtualBox and install your own version of XP inside of it.

Found a manual link for VirtualPC and you can load your own copy of XP into it if you wan't to give it a try. I'll test it first and make sure the install works ok.

Hey MrRadio is the computer 32bit or 64bit.
Mickstv
64
1: Virtual PC 64bit
2: visualization patch might be needed if your hardware doesn't do Hardware visualization. It will tell you if the update is needed.
3: And you'll need your copy of XP to load ok.
I must say it's not as good as running a copy of xp directly on a computer but it does work ok.

Mick .. any chance a few quick instructions how to go about it?
Think I jagged it ... created and installing XP now. It's all new to me .. or not
It started to install XP but froze on the F8 to agree ... now wont even try to install ... I'll keep trying

How are you going with that install Mr Radio. Did you have to install the visualization patch.
Mickstv
Mudled my way through to where the virtual PC detected XP disc in drive and started to load .. when it go to where you press F8 to agree it wouldn't accept the F8 input at all ... the page up/down input worked but not F8 .. subsequently esc worked and the install terminated. After that I cant get the virtual PC to even see the disc drive ... in process of uninstalling and reinstalling the virtual pc to try again. Oh yes patch required

Now I'm not 100% sure because my version xp has the F8 bypassed but I did have to click the mouse in the view screen to get it to register the virtual pc.
I'll have a look for a tut
You could try click mouse on virtual box first.
Fn and F8
Alt Fn F8 all at once
Mickstv
Got it going .. it needed Fn F8
