    Default Can't fathom this one.

As mentioned in another thread I have acquired a Compaq C62 laptop. I wasn't entirely happy with the operation of the touchpad so off to the Compaq site and downloaded the latest update. The update which was supposedly for a 64 bit system declined to install citing that "you must install 64 bit drivers on this system" So undaunted off to the Synaptics site and downloaded the W7 64 bit drivers only to find it won't start citing "file xyz is not a valid win32 file." Am I missing something?

I'll be onto Compaq soon but in the mean time anyone have any thoughts.

Go Control Panel....System and under System Type should be "64bit operating system"

This will tell you if it definitely is 64 bit

I'm curious as to what makes you think a software driver update will make any difference - as what is it you are not "entirely happy" with the touchpad?

Have you tried adjusting the settings of the touchpad?

How about investing in a cordless mouse, as may be a more useful resource rather than wasting time in pursuit of something that will never be suffice!

looks like porky had a bad day
buts his right, some touchpads just suck
considering i use the back of my little finger to use them, some are just useless
i doubt its driver related, more the mouse settings or just some are smoother than others
those acer aspire 500$ jobs are great
the toshiba 2000$ jobs are crap

It is not smooth operation, in fact the pointer seems to "catch" on links and the pad itself seems to operate only in broad cross config in the center and no I didn't pin my hopes only on driver update but wanted the latest, so it will be as good as it can be, before updating drivers I have spent quite some considerable time fiddling with sensitivity and other settings trying to get it to my liking. Now that it is updated I will again try various settings and hopfully get the way I want it .. and yes I do have a mini mouse that I use most of the time with the lappy.

I didn't mean to come across as being angry - just trying to share my experience.

I managed to disable the "simulate button press" on my Dell, as before this was driving me crazy with unexpected things happening all because the sensitivity of the trackpad was interpreting this command!

Basically you can't beat a cordless mouse, although for truely portable applications this may not be always practical.

Glad you resolved your problem, as realised after posting previous post you had resolved this with Windows Updates. If you are still having problems switch to Linux, this will fix all your problems no matter how complicated they are

Noticed immediate difference when I disabled trackpad button simulate. Was outside browser that previous problems mostly occured, due most likely to sensitivity of trackpad, which I was happy with in regards of cursor movement.
