To: Mick WIikey problems

hey mick this is sladehk.. had 2 wiikeys installed a while back.. (somehow the forum deleted my last account ) anywayz thign is i haven't been able to use any wiikey updates for a while but i really want to play super mario galaxy and needs the 1.9s patch.. ive tried almost every method out there but when i try to use the 1.9s patchs and etc.. it says error test failed check your connections and try again after i run teh test cycle..

any help..?

i read it on the forum that it's coz of bad wiring/programming or something

Are you sure they are genuine WiiKey and not clones? I have seen that issue with a lot of clones but never with a Genuine one.

Hi Mate,
You were going to send them to me so I could take a look, BUT, have you tried ejecting the disk when it gets to 100% checked(before error) as this is usually where you will be able to update if having probs. It WILL be this so please try it.

I don't use clones, so not much chance of that unless supplier has ripped me off

I also have installed quite a few thousand modchips, so don't think the wiring is going to be faulty either. Don't know what ill informed forum that would of been???

I can fix if I don't have them

there could be another issue here
type of media you are burning the update disk to for a start
also are you using nero ? if you are what version of nero ? and what are the settings
aslo there may be a problem with the wiikey itself
in some cases the checksum values do not add up correctly and you will get the message you are getting , this I believe I think I read once that was due to a batch of roms that were not up too scratch , they work flawlessly but ahd some issues with updates

i used imgburn

alrighty.. (i initially tried to run smg and it did its update on me =( )
at the test cycle, i ejected it @ 100% and it went to the next stage.. then it went to the real thing and went to 100% and said it failed.. and that i should use a recovery disk!!
oh noes.. i tried to put in the config disc but it says unauthroised.. same with smg

i did it again this time both ejecitng @ 100% and it said it was successful both times..but smg still says unauthorised.. other ones work fine

for config the error is

an error has occred press the ejectbutton.. remove game disc and turn power off etcetc

is your SMG a NTSC or PAL version? sounds like you need to run config disk

it's PAL version.. but when i run the config disk it says:

"an error has occred press the ejectbutton.. remove game disc and turn power off etcetc"

i tried using all the older configs like 1.2, 1.3 but all had the error

using a gcos 1.2 config.. it loads but i can't enter settings without a GC controller and using the reset button to *scroll* resets it.

i read somewhere that i need to change region settings to all and becoz of all this i should use the recovery disc is this true?


(so basically, firmware successuflyl updated, used to be able to run config1.3 but now can't change region overide, gcos 1.3 with config works but i have no gc controller and reset button doesn't scroll but resets.. smg still is unauthorized)

unfortunaltely i HAVE tried to install both already
ive installed 1.9s firmware.. just that the config doesn't work
apparently it needs region-unlocking turned on to work.. thus need 1.3 to work it..

Sounds like bad media as Ozchips said...burn on a dvd-r at 4x on a decent brand media...Ritek will do

bad media? for the config disk? it can't be. i have burnt smg, the firmware and plenty of others and all have been fine.. it isn't the media..

I'm happy to take a look for you mate, but I don't really want to have to charge for something you can do. It definately sounds like media.

Use ritek on 4X and burn with imageburn, NERO is no good for Wii.

but im just lost to why the media would be fine for all my others but it fails @ just th econfigdvd?

when you update to 1.9s, when it gets to 100%, press eject and it should say update complete...then will be all good mate.

Another thing you may want to check is your Wii firmware version it shouldn't make any difference but you never know.

That "an error has occured press the eject button" message is very very common and seen always on a bad disk.

I have updated 50 or so consoles with 1.9s.
Update complete comes up when it finished flashing, no need to eject the disc.

Ryan, this is the way to force update when you receive an update error. I've seen prolly 4-5 out of approx 100 that I've done or assisted with on here.

This has alot to do with the age of the wiikey as the older ones sometimes do this.

Mine is an old one. I have not got it working yet, but I'm not freaking out Mick is involved in trying to troubleshoot the issue with me. Once we get it figured out I or Mick will let you guys know, I'm sure.
