    Default Cloudy weather problem

I just recently setup Selectv and my signal strength meter on my Box says I am getting between 68 and 72%.
On dark cloudy nights my signal often drops as low as 30% and then drops out completely.
Then it may come back when the cloud thins a bit.
At first I thought it was heavy rain causing it, but I still get it when it ain't raining.

Is my signal level too low or is this problem common and quite normal?

You just need to focus your dish correctly mate
You're close, but you to be spot on, not close
Have you changed LNB skew etc?

I guess I'll have to take a monitor screen up on the roof.
I had my wife singing out the peaks on the chart and I don't think it got much higher than 72%.
    Should it go to 100%?
I didn't even get that from OPTUS C1 and that is heaps more powerful than Pas 8.
I don't recall ever having cloud problems with C1.

Well it's either that or you need a larger dish
    How thick is this cloud?

    Thick?
    Dunno.
Them grey ones what quite often bring rain.
Fortunately I live in Melbourne and it never seems to rain here.

If your running off a 60cm dish, the strengh will be harder to pick up. You must skew (turn) LNB for max %. The dish may need a slight adjustment . If you have a 90cm or above then you should be getting a massive % in your stength. The same things apply as above.

    Also, which decoder??
Can you fine tune (change freq settings)?
I have a few decoders and one is a strong with 'blind search' The freq values it picked up are for my setup (only) and are slightly diff from Lyngsat. Not much but enough to drop % 20 or 30.

Hows 'bout you let us know what you've got and then we can help a bit more
    Cheers, Saintaholic

    Decoder is a Technosat IR7000.

The dish not sure what size it is.
Probably closer to 600 than 900.
    I'll check tomorrow.
Probably due for some wet weather soon, so I best get my adjustments sorted.

    Cool Difference in skew.

    G'Day,
Just to elaborate on the above.
The skew on Optus Sats is approx 30% different to other sats in our sky.
If you just move the dish, both elevation and azimuth to Pas8, you will get their transponders as both Horizontal and Vertical.
You need to adjust the skew for maximum Horizontal signal. (All their transponders are horizontal at the moment.)
My solution, has been to use two motorised dishes, with different skews to obviate this anomaly.
A tone burst switch feeding a Fortec 5100 gives me H-H coverage for all visible Sats.
I have found that Pas8 does drop out with VERY HEAVY rain. Otherwise not a problem.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".
