Disconnect the dreambox from power for about 5min.

    Connect RS232 nullmodem cable

start hyper terminal with the following:

    - Name = Adios Amigos
    - COM port = 1 or 2 or 3 etc you need to find this...
    - Bits per second = 115200
    - Data bits = 8
    - Parity = None
    - Stop bits = 1
    - Flow control = Xon / Xoff

You should now see a blinking cursor?

Now power the dreambox and pay attention to the PC monitor.... you have to be quick but with whatever appears on screen, hit enter twice quickly...

a menu should shortly after appear...?

    Can you get this far?

Thats what I want to know , the rest of us arent getting much info here.

Is this something that has gone off on a certain time/date and is rendering DM500's with certain Gemini images unusable worldwide ? Or are we just talking a couple of people with problems ?

its worldwide... gemini 4.3.1 time bomb... its on their websites... they claim its a driver from Dream Multimedia and they just put the driver in their image... nothing more...all clones that use that will be having the boot erased... same boxes that had the blue pannel lock.. will get the boot erased now...im reading the i-have-a-dreambox website ( gemini team ) and so far over 50 people complain...

Ok , thanks for that. I realise you are probably a bit annoyed about it all , its just the name of the thread was bit confusing as to what was going on.

Correct it is a driver and what they say about being in the DMM CSV is 100% correct and many other image providers have it in their images. Gemini were just the first public release of it.

Care to elaborate jonc? By the way I had a mac attack this morning, must admit the burgers made me feel similar to Foxtel programming (sh*t as usual and more of the same) lol

well if this is true, then its DMM at blame and not gemini team. but not known yet, could be gemini pushing the blame over to DMM.

have other images fallen over ? PLi , neutrino, Nabilo etc ?

if it was in the 'new' driver wouldn't the driver file be huge having every 'official' dreambox serial nunmber in it. sounds kinda fishy

Well, blow me over with facts Jonc.

I was under the impression that a MAC address starting with 00 09 34 00 xx xx xx was immune from the Gemini crap since it is the legitimate range assigned to DMM.

Perhaps you can elaborate as to how you propose to identify a clone?

I thought I was the only one feeling this pain when this happened to my box yesterday.

Now from what I can tell I have an original dreambox. Passes all the requirements on the Dream Multimedia website for picking a fake. Either it is a very good fake or an original.

Does someone have good instructions on how Jtag this box back to life or do I need to add this device to my hardware grave yard?

    Thanks
